Alexandria Anderson
I sit on the window seat and lean against the wall, as I look out of the window. It’s three in the afternoon and the skies are clear, revealing the light blue sky. I take the book that was on top of the window sill and when I was about to continue reading it, I hear a knock on the door – it’s Mom, wearing a formal outfit.
“Where are you going?” I ask.
“I am going to the hospital to submit some documents.” she replies.
“Oh, okay.” I stand up from the window seat and we head downstairs.
“I’ll be back in a few hours, will you be okay?” she asks whilst putting her coat on.
“Yeah, of course.” I confidently answer as I smile at her.
She nods, “If you’re hungry, there’s food in the fridge that you can microwave.”
“Okay.” I chuckle.
“I’ll see you later, sweetheart, I love you.” she kisses me on the forehead and heads to the front door.
“Bye, I love you too.” I reply.
Mom goes into her car and I wait at the doorstep, watching her drive down the road. I take a deep breath and jus stare up at the sky for a few moments, before going back upstairs and read the book for an hour or so, but for some reason; I couldn’t really focus. I put on a jumper and head to the park across from our house, it’s actually my first time to go there since Mom and I got to Slough. I take a seat on the bench and I am just watching the kids play, when I hear footsteps heading to where I am sitting.
“Alexandria?” a very familiar voice says.
I turn to my side and see an old friend of mine back in Manchester.
“Andy!” I squeal just before I realize that I said it out loud, I bite my lip and look at him sheepishly. “I am sorry.”
He smiles at me and opens his arms out for a hug, “Come here.”
I walk towards him and he wraps his arms around me and rests his chin on top of my head.
“Aw, I’ve missed you so much.” he whispers.
“I’ve missed you too.” I reply and we stay like that for a minute or so until he speaks up.
“Okay okay, too much love.” he says, making me laugh as we pull away.
I look at him curiously, “I thought you were in Manchester.”
“Yeah, well I am in a new band now and I live at a flat with our manager and our trialists.” he states.
“A new band,” I utter in disbelief. “how long did we not talk to each other?”
“I don’t know, almost two years, I think.” he replies, as the two of us sit on the bench.
“What, is it?” I ask and he nods whilst watching the kids play. “I am so sorry.”
He shakes his head and looks over at me, “Don’t worry about that, anyway what are you doing in Slough?”
“Oh, we just moved in.” I reply.
“No way!” he exclaims enthusiastically.
“Yeah, I live just across the street.” I point at the back with my thumb.
“Our flat’s just across the street as well,” he says whilst smiling. “do you have anything important to do today?”
“Nah, I just have a couple boxes left to unpack.” I reply.
