Andy Fowler
“Hm, that’s weird.” I mutter to myself, as I dial her number again.
“Why, what’s the matter?” Rye asks, looking at me from his bed.
“Alexa isn’t answering her phone.” I reply without looking at him.
“Maybe she’s still asleep, Andy.” Brooklyn, who’s as usual playing Xbox, chimes in.
“I doubt that, it’s already quarter to twelve, she should be awake by now.” I say.
Alexandria’s phone just keeps on ringing, so I get up from the sofa and take my jumper from the side of my bed.
“Where are you going?” Mikey asks on my way to the door.
“I am going to check up on Alexa.” I stop to answer him and continue to walk towards the door.
“Wait, I’ll come with you.” Rye quickly goes down from his bed and puts his jumper on.
As Rye and I walk to their house, I keep on calling her and leaving her messages but there isn’t even a single reply. I knock on the door a couple times, but no one’s answering it. When I was just about to knock again, the door finally opens. Mrs. Anderson looks like she’s in a hurry, her hair’s tousled and there is a damp towel on her hand.
“I am sorry it took me a while,” she says slightly out of breath, as she opens the door wider. “come on in.”
“Are you okay, Mrs. Anderson?” Rye asks, as we walk inside.
“Yeah, I am alright, thank you.” she replies.
“Where’s Alexandria?” I ask.
“Oh, she’s in her room; she’s not feeling very well at the moment.” she says.
“Is it okay if we go upstairs and see her?” Rye asks.
“Yeah, of course.” she replies and leads us up to Alexandria’s room.
Rye and I walk inside her room, shutting the door behind us quietly.
“Sweetheart, Andrew and Rye are here.” Mrs. Anderson says, as she puts the towel back into the small plastic basin on top of the bedside table.
Alexandria slowly turns to us and smiles a little, she looks pale. I walk towards her and take a seat on the edge of her bed.
“How are you feeling?” I ask.
“Um, I am okay.” she says, then turns to Mrs. Anderson. “Mom, I’ll be okay, I can take care of myself.”
Mrs. Anderson shakes her head, “It’s alright, sweetheart, don’t worry about my work.”
“We can look after her, Mrs. Anderson.” Rye suggests, as he walks towards the bed.
“Yeah, we’ll take care of her.” I add, assuring her.
Mrs. Anderson thinks for a minute, before she lets out a breath and nods.
“I am really sorry, sweetheart.” she says, as she kisses her daughter on her forehead. “I’ll make it up to you, I promise.”
“You don’t have to, Mom, it’s okay.” Alexandria assures her with a weak smile.
Mrs. Anderson just smiles back at her, then turns to me and Rye. “Thank you, just call me if there’s any problem.”
“We will.” Rye and I say in sync.
Mrs. Anderson excuses herself and the two of us walk downstairs, whilst Rye stays in the room with Alexandria. I wait, as Mrs. Anderson gets her stuffs and thanks me again, before going into her car and drives off to her work. I walk upstairs and Rye’s sitting on the edge of her bed next to her, checking her temperature with the back of his hand.
