"Tikki, detransform me." The bluenette murmured as Tikki flew out of her earrings. Tikki was visibly not happy with her Miraculous holder, facepalming once Marinette was situated.
"You nearly made him get an akuma!" The kwami exclaimed, her eyes wide with concern.
"I didn't mean to break his heart, but he isn't what I want and he needed to know that somehow. I love Adrien— he needs to know that too." Marinette briefly explained to her kwami.
Tikki's mouth opened to say something, but she was rudely interrupted by her owner. "Actually, it's not too late to take a stroll down the street and try to confess to Adrien. Maybe that'll make me feel better."
"Mari, it's eleven forty-five. At night. What makes you think he could possibly be out at this time of—" the kwami became irritated as she was interrupted once again.
"You never know!" The girl replied in obvious excitement, climbing out of her balcony and sliding down onto the sidewalk. She took about a ten minute walk and glanced at her the digital time largely displayed on her phone, noticing it was already eleven fifty-five.
Before she could consider returning home and to her pleasant surprise, Adrien popped out of an alleyway. "A-Adrien!" She lacked hesitance, rushing over to meet the blond haired boy.
He raised an eyebrow. "Oh. Hey, Marinette. What are you doing out here this late?"
"N-Nothing really, j-just taking a stroll. C-Couldn't sleep, y-you know?" She attempted to say as concisely as she possibly could.
"Oh, that's lovely, I guess. I should probably get going now—" the model was about to exit their rather hasty conversation, but Marinette refused to allow that, interrupting instead.
"U-Uh, e-excuse me, b-but I needed to ask you something." The bluenette quickly looked down at the concrete sidewalk, nervously staring at her feet with intensity.
Silence settled upon them for a solid few seconds, Adrien speaking once again to break the awkward tension between them.
"Well, you can say what you'd like, but it's getting a bit late," he pointed out politely, but waited for the girl's response.
"W-Well, I-I was gonna ask, d-do you have a crush on me?" She stuttered, but said slowly, making sure she didn't screw up a lot of her words.
Adrien looked at her, taken aback by her question. "I-I mean, I love you as a close friend and such. I-It could possibly be years before I even think that far. W-Were only twenty-one, Mari, and as you noticed, I'm forced with Chloé. D-Don't tell her I said this, but I don't exactly want to be with her. M-My father wants me to be with her for business reasons. Y-You can understand, right?"
Marinette nodded quietly and she continued to dart her eyes at her feet, attempting not to show any sorrow in her now glassy eyes.
"I-I have another girl on my mind." The boy blurted out, making the situation mentally worse for the saddened girl.
"Who?" She asked as she lowered her voice down to a whisper to avoid quivering.
"It's likely that you don't know her, but I'm unsure if she lives here or not. Thankfully she isn't a model like me, but she's more or less a superhero to me. I hope you do understand, right?" He seemingly rambled.
"Y-Yeah, I understand," Marinette began to shed tears, which ran down her cheeks freely and Adrien was able to see them.
"I-It's fine, I-I understand. I-I'm not perfect for you, right?" Her voice shook with misery and hurt as she broke into a sprint, ensuring to never look back at Adrien again.
The boy stood there, speechless. He broke Marintette's heart, yet it was an accident.
That's when the clock struck twelve; two hearts broken in a matter of an hour.
