Vanessa-

I wake up in the hospital. My first instinct is to get up and find out what is going on. I tried to get up but find I couldn't move my body. A doctor came in and started to talk.

"Oh, good, you are awake," she started, "your friend told me you took quite the fall back there. She is here, waiting in the lobby for news of your well-being. She can't visit you today though, you are not well enough."

Angela was here? Oh gosh, that is great, I needed her now.

The doctor continued to talk, "We have just found out that you have been temporarily paralyzed from the neck down. That is why you can't move. The effect of this will not be long though. We predict about a week or two until you can move your whole body again. Can you talk?"

From somewhere in my body I made a strange croaking sound.

"We'll work on that first," the doctor took notes, "right now I will go tell your friend you are awake. I will send the nurse in to help you start moving. By the way, my name is doctor Maggie. Try to notify me if you need anything."

Maggie sounded very cheerful, especially cheerful since she was talking to a 16-year-old girl that just fell off a mountain and was paralyzed.

My doctor then jotted down some more notes about my appearance and mumbled a little bit, "Blue eyes, medium length blonde wavy hair, about 5 foot, healthy weight."

Later that day a nurse was sent in to help me learn how to move again. We started with my jaw. Clenching it and unclenching it. After a while, it became a second nature. Soon I could speak again. Over the next few weeks, I worked hard on being able to move all of my body. By the first day of the second week, I was fully functional again. I was on my way out of the hospital when someone caught my eye. It was a boy. One from my school. He saw me looking at him and I quickly looked away. I wanted to talk to him but I felt like it would be awkward.

As he started my way I quickly avoided eye contact and walked out the door, finally heading home.
