FOR THE NEXT TWENTY MINUTES, Katya had been inconspicuously trying to communicate with Sonia over the phone, her hushed whispers the only few drops of salvation the others could cling to in what seemed like a fruitless effort to understand the conversation.
Katya had an arising suspicion that the symbol on the paper belonged to a much larger entity than they would've thought possible; hence the secretively-muttered exchanges of angst and alarm the others were witnessing.
Finally having run out of patience, Annika abruptly rose from her chair, her bare feet brushing past the plush carpet as the strode towards the kitchen counter, where Katya now stood. She slammed her hand down onto the silver-veined marble, cocking her head towards the side.
"Are you going to tell us what's going on, or should we leave you alone for even longer?" she sneered. Her gaze had been directed accusingly towards Katya, who responded with an indignant scowl.
"Sonia, could you please do us the honor of telling us exactly what the hell is going on?" Asher whined petulantly.
The Sonia they saw on the screen rolled her eyes, pursing her lips as lines of concern graced her forehead.
"I do hope you lot aren't bothering Katya. You can't always demand answers from her, children. Give her time to comprehend what she has seen. How can she inform you when she can't even be sure herself?"
Sonia was always asking them questions they didn't know how to answer.
Alex shifted in his seat, the sleeves of his black sweater inching gracefully down his arm as he placed his fist beneath his chin, as if deep in thought.
"She's right," he then said, running a hand through his ruffled locks. "Give her a minute, Annika. We'll know soon enough."
"Fine," Annika retorted. "Just hurry up already. I'm exhausted, and it's getting incredibly late. First the party, and now this."
In Maddie's opinion, she was probably just too afraid of what would happen if she lost her beauty sleep. Regardless, the others nodded in agreement, Violet letting out a small yawn as she curled up on the sofa.
Once Katya had shoved her phone back into the pocket of her trousers, she turned to others with a humored grin. "Sonia thinks I should tell you all in the morning,"
All of them let out a loud groan, a haze of ice cold irritance and mingled drowsiness spreading across the room. The wrath Katya was about to face should've scared her.
But everyone knew she wasn't scared of much. Annika got up to shout at her, the others simply groaning under their breath.
"But I don't really care, so shut up and listen," she announced with a scowl.
After they'd quickly recoiled, she continued. "The golden emblem we saw on the drawing was the symbol for a party in House Zeus. They operate in Olympus and they call themselves the Golden Sniper," she paused.
"They steal using their magic, and the artifacts are collected for the army of Zeus. Except that this time, they've stolen from us." Katya snarled.
"There's no honor in taking what's ours, so we're giving them a taste of their own sick medicine. Tomorrow, we're taking what's theirs."
"They wouldn't have been stupid enough to leave the cure in a warehouse." Alex rebutted. Unless it was a trap, he thought.
"You're right," Katya grinned. "They've left something even better for us - their very own weapons. Handcrafted in Olympus and designed for magicians like them."
