"Your stance is weak. You'll easily be tripped," Harry commented, throwing a punch towards Draco.
Draco blocked it and pushed him back with a grunt, "Harry, we've been fighting for hours. I can barely feel my legs. Can we take a break?" He panted, his face red.
Of course, Harry wasn't breaking a sweat. It was embarrassing to Draco, especially considering Harry's cousins were watching.
They all met Draco -- well, there was only four. Ginny and her girlfriend Luna, and Ron and his girlfriend Hermione. Naturally, both Ginny and Ron despised Draco. Draco could tell Hermione didn't trust him, but she wasn't opened about it. And Luna... Draco liked Luna. She never judged him.
"Alright. Fine. Break." Harry sighed, lowering his fists. Draco dropped his arms and fell onto a nearby stump, wiping his face down with a cloth.
He's been training non-stop for three days, and his entire body felt numb.
"He's never going to be ready." Ginny scowled, watching Draco take a drink from the drinking bucket, "He's like a baby."
Draco clenched his jaw and wiped the beads of water from his mouth, "if you want to criticize me, you can atleast be nice about it." He bit.
Ginny glared, "I wasn't talking to you."
"No, but you're talking about me."
Ginny took a step towards him, "mind your own, Human."
Draco stood to his feet, adrenaline keeping his legs from letting go on him, "I think people talking about me is minding my own, Vampire."
Ginny took another step closer, now inches away from Draco's face, "I highly recommend not pissing me off, Malfoy." She hissed, jabbing her index finger into his chest.
"It seems like I already piss you off just by breathing." Draco retrot, his arms crossed.
"Okay guys, that's enough," Harry said from the side.
Draco waved his hand to shoo him away.
"You know what? You're right." Ginny stated, wrapping her right hand around Draco's neck and squeezing; lifting Draco off the ground, "your breathing does piss me off."
Draco gasped and clawed at her hand in an attempt to get her off.
"Ginny! Hey! That's enough!" Luna cried. "Let him go!"
"Listen here, Mortal. You should keep your mouth shut. The only reason I'm not killing you is because you have information we need. So don't speak down to me ever again, understood?"
Draco was now turning blue to the face- he could barely hear Ginny speaking over the sound of blood rushing through his head.
Finally, Harry took her wrist into his and squeezed, causing her to gasp and let go of Draco, the blond falling to the forest floor with a thud.
Harry was seething at the mouth with his hand still gripped around Ginny's wrist, his eyes literally glowing red with pure anger, "don't ever put your hands on him again, you hear me? The only reason you're not killing him is because of me. Because Ginny, I swear on the gods, if you hurt him ever again, I'll kill you."
Everything fell silent. It seemed even the crickets in the woods had stopped chirping, and everyone all held their breath and watched to see what would happen next.
No one knew what to say or how to react.
Meanwhile, Ginny's eyes swam with betrayal and hurt... and it had occurred to Draco that Harry had chosen him over Ginny. Over his family.
Over his blood.Ginny yanked her arm away from Harry, tears threatening to spill as her mouth trembled.
She stared at him for a second longer, as if debating whether or not to say something to him, before she turned on her heals and stormed off - pushing through everyone else.Harry watched her leave, and watched the others follow her; Slowly disappearing into the dense forest.
After they all faded into the forest, Harry turned and crouched down next to Draco, "are you okay?" He muttered, moving Draco's hand from his neck to examine it.
Draco nodded slowly, watching Harry's eyes begin fade from red, back to the jade green he was accustomed to.
"Come on, let's go replace your bandages. It seems Ginny really has a thing for necks, apparently." Harry joked, attempting to lighten the mood as he helped Draco to his feet.
"Don't all vampires?" Draco rasped, his voice hoarse.
Harry chuckled, "I suppose so."
-
It was late - or early? The sun was only now beginning to rise and Draco hasn't gotten a blink of sleep. He couldn't sleep knowing the fact everyone deemed him as a weak human.
Then again, they were right. He was weak, and he was a human. He decided that because he couldn't sleep, he'd train.
And that he did. He snuck out of the cabin and began practicing on a straw dummy Harry had made.
The dummy was simple, with sloppily painted red target signs on its chest and head.Draco had practiced kicking and punching it, determination kept him from passing out from exhaustion.
"You're not going to improve if you train without taking a break." A voice sounded from behind.
Draco froze, before scowling, "first you expect me to somehow magically become as strong and powerful as a vampire, then you denounce me for training on my own time." He retort. "Make up your mind. Do you want me to build strength, or not?"
Ginny crossed her arms and bit her cheek, keeping herseld from telling Draco off.
She stood there for a moment in silence, before sighing with a roll to her eyes, "listen, I'm sorry about how I've been treating you. I don't expect forgiveness and frankly, the only reason I'm apologizing is for Harry. I don't want to stress him out with us constantly bickering. I think we should just accept that we have to work with eachother, and leave it at that."
Draco narrowed his eyes, examining her. He knew it must've taken a lot for her to apologize-- she probably had to swallow a lot of her pride.
Biting his tongue, he, too, sighed, "apology accepted." He replied, turning to face the dummy again.
"What? Really? That's all it took?" Ginny asked, disbelief crossing her features.
Draco smirked and grabbed the drinking bucket, pretending he was about to take a drink, before splashing it's continents onto Ginny, causing a loud gasp to escape her lips.
"Consider us even." He grinned, crossing his arms.
Ginny pouted for a second, glaring at him through her wet hair, before bursting into a fit of giggles- followed by Draco.
Draco supposed he could warm up to Ginny.
Little did either of them know, Harry watched from the window of the cabin, A small smile dancing across his lips.
