🌸Laila🌸
Today was the day of the wedding, and I was nervous. Which means if I was nervous then my mom was too. I was wearing a simple red dress which was appropriate for a fancy event. The card which got mailed to us the day after Blaire had told me about my dads wedding said it was going to take place at the beach.
"Laila have you seen my black heels?" My mom was frantic and in a hurry because we were close to being late. "Yeah they're right behind the chair." She gave me a thankful look.
"Alright I'm ready are you?" I nodded and we were off.The Beach was beautiful. I haven't gone swimming in a while and I was itching to jump in the water. The water was like a safe haven for me, it made me feel at peace and calm. So imagine my suffering when the ocean was just steps away but I couldn't get in. It was so close to my reach yet so far away.
"Sweetie hurry up it's starting." My mom catches my attention and brings me back to reality. I notice how close I actually am to the water the waves roar to life and touch my toes. Briefly but I still felt it. The cold and how it shocked my entire body making me feel alive. I started walking back to where my mom was and sat in one of the chairs.
I looked at the front and saw my dad with a smile on his face, and Blaire beside him along with the other bridesmaids. So she was one but I wasn't? What did I expect , I'm not even considered part of his family. The music started playing and the flower girl came out, Then the bride. Everyone turned to look at her. No doubt she was gorgeous. Unlike her daughter though she wasn't the spawn of Satan.
I'm not sure how Blaire came to become such a conniving insensitive bitch but it wasn't from her mom. Erica, the bride walked down the isle with a smile on her face and staring straight towards my father. His eyes widened and a smile came to his face while also staring at the woman walking towards him.
I turned to see how my mom was doing and she had tears in her eyes. She wasn't sobbing or making any noise but she was heartbroken. "Mom." I said with a soft voice and held her hand. She gave me a weak smile and went back to looking at the ceremony.
"Do you Erica Lovelyn take Jace Retch to be your husband through all the hardships, all the sickness, and until death do you part?" She smiled and looked up at him with eyes filled with nothing but love. "I do." The priest nodded then turned to Jace. " Do you Jace Retch take Erica Lovelyn to be your wife through all the hardships, all the sickness, and until death do you part?" He repeats again to my father.
"I do." He replies without a moments hesitation. My come covered her mouth letting out quiet sobs and her eyes red and puffy. I couldn't stand this anymore. I saw Blaire smirking at me and my mom. I rolled my eyes and led my mom to our car. We had to leave, she can't take anymore of this."let's go." She stayed put though. "No we have to stay till the end." She said through her sobs. "Fine but mom please if gets too much we leave." She nodded and went back. Why are we here? I'm only here for my mom but still what's the point? I walk back to the area where people are chatting and eating. Someone hit their class and was making a toast, It was Blaire.
"I would like to say thank you for everyone who came to witness this beautiful ceremony with my parents who are obviously made for each other." She looks me dead in the eye and everyone continues on doing whatever. My father started walking towards me and my mom with a smile on his face. "Marianne, Laila it's nice to see you two." I scoffed and looked away. While my mom gave him a brief hug. "Congratulations Jace." My mom had sad look in her eyes but a smile. "Thank you it means a lot that my daughter and a friend are here to see how happy I am." I rolled my eyes noticing how he called my mom a friend.
"Yeah the whole thing was beautiful." She said back to him and I started staring off into space. "How are you Laila?" He asks me and I meet his eyes. They seem kind but looks are deceiving. "What do you care?" I spat out with an angry tone. He looked shocked at my answer. "I'm your father I have every reason to care." I stepped closer to him. "You were never cared before so why should you now." I was bitter and jealous. Why couldn't he just choose us?
"I've always cared, I sent money for your health." I scoffed once again. Is he being serious right now. "I don't care about our stupid money, why couldn't you just be there for me like you were for Blaire?" My eyes were starting to water. My mom placed her hand on my shoulder. "We can leave now." She whispered softly but I shook my head. "Not yet." I wasn't done I needed him to answer. "Why couldn't you ever just be a real father to Chris and I?" I brought my dead brother into this now. He tensed up and a flash of hurt appeared on his face.
"I'm sorry I know I wasn't in the past, but I will be now. I promise." He said to me with a hopeful voice. Too bad I didn't care.
"Sorry dad but you're years too late." With that I walked out with my mom and drive home.
Why did he have to leave us? Why couldn't he just chose us? I could've been a good daughter, I would've been perfect. Even if he really meant what he said he was too late. He's always too late.
