Authors Notes
Another mistake that writers on Wattpad can make is putting an author’s note in the middle of the story. They do it when they thinks something need more explaining, to make sure no one take offence to what was written, to translate it, or make sure everyone saw that they used a pun or made a joke.
When I say in the middle of the story, I mean do not do something like this:
“Hombre estúpido. ¿Por qué me haces sentir lo mismo que yo? “She said under her breath, thinking he couldn’t hear her, much less understand her. (Stupid man. Why do you make me feel the way I do? )
It surprised her when he answered back in a smooth, steady voice. “Porque me quieres, cariño. Pensé que era obvio.” (Because you love me, sweetheart. I thought it was obvious.)She stood there with her mouth open, but quickly shut it.
“Since when do you speak Spanish?” She asked.
If you want to explain something that has happened in the story, save your authors note until the end, or even put it in the beginning. If there are lines in the story that are said in another language, like in the example above, then put the translations after the story, in an author’s note. You do not need to put an author’s note in the middle of the story to explain a joke or a pun. If it’s a joke, then people should be able to get it on their own, without you explaining it. An author’s note can ruin the mood of the story.
