chapter three

"and on the three counts of the charge of rape in the first degree, we find the defendant guilty." the juror says as the court is adorned and michell is taken into custody to serve his sentence, which is 25 to life being that two other girls besides ashley stepped forward.

as everyone started to leave the courtroom, including us detectives, carisi was walking and chatting with rollins as fin walked next to me.

"so now that you've been here a couple of months, how does it feel working in svu?" fin asks me.

"different. definitely different than homicide but helping the victims is what i want to."

"so you and carisi, huh?"

"excuse me?"

"come on, it's been a couple of weeks and there's clearly chemistry between you two. you telling me there's nothing going on between you two?"

"zero, zip, nada fin." i laugh.

"i don't know, it seems like something."

"well, i can assure you it's nothing." i say. "we're just partners. i don't exactly have time for a relationship right now. my last was a disaster."

"bad boyfriend?"

"something like that."

"detective russo!" i heard my name being called as i turned around to see barba calling me.

"excuse me." i say walking toward barba as fin nods.

"nice win barba. what can i do for you?" i ask.

"thank you. but, come on, we've known each other for how long?"

"alright mister harvard, shoot."

"how's svu?"

 "it's been good. i'm learning a lot and the squad is great."

 "how are you doing?"

"rafi." i sigh.

"i'm sorry, i had to ask."

"yeah well you didn't have to. you know i don't want to talk about that." i say. "look, i gotta get back to my squad."

he nodded. "coming to your brother's later?"

"i'm gonna try." i reply. 

"bringing carisi?" 

i stop in my tracks. 

"not you too." 

"you're gonna tell me there's nothing there?"

"that's exactly what i'm gonna tell you." 

"you know he's going to law school." he said before i went to meet my crew and he turns to walk the other way.

"c'mon lady, i need some food in me." carisi says waiting in front of the car.

"alright, alright carisi i'm coming." i laugh.

"hey, everything alright?"

"oh yeah, just talking about the case with barba."

"well, i'm here for you if you need, you know? these cases can get pretty tough."

"thanks." i smile. "so i know this really good pizza place around the corner."

"i bet i've tried it."

"oh yeah? it's one of the best slices in manhattan. the best ones you can ever have are in queens though."

"staten island has the best, what are you talking about?"

"alright, challenge accepted. but, when i win, you're paying for all my pizza's."

"alright, same for you ella."

"you're on dominick."

as we drove the pizza place and sat down, sonny took one bite and i knew i had won this round. 

two minutes later, he finally admitted to it.

as we were enjoying our pizza, liv called us back to the precinct for an impending emergency regarding the trial.

as we rushed there and into the building everyone was gathered at the evidence table.

"what do we got?"

"one of the girls that testified at the trial was assaulted. she was rushed into surgery."

"what the hell happened?"

"we don't know. we haven't been able to speak to her. 911 call from a neighbor claiming to hear screaming. local precinct checked it out and she was brutally beaten."

"oh my god." carisi says sitting down in one of the chairs.

"i'll call barba and let him know." fin says.

"who could have done this?" i ask.

"well, he had his buddies at the trial so i wouldn't be surprised if it was them." amanda says. 

"i'm gonna call and see if the other two girls can get a squad cars in front of their houses." liv says before walking away.

"okay, i'm gonna head to the hospital and wait to see if she pulls through." i say grabbing my coat and walking out of the squad room.

"wait, i'll come with you." carisi says before i walk out.

"no, i'm fine carisi. stay here with rollins and the rest of the crew. see if you can find anything. just let the sarge know for me." i say walking out and getting into my car.
