chapter fifteen

i woke up the next morning so warm and comfortable that i did not want to move, nor did i want to face the outside world.

i realized that was the best night of sleep i've had since i was kidnapped. there were no nightmares, no awaking up in a cold sweat. nothing felt better than a good night's rest and this sense of safeness... wait...

is that an arm around me?

i turn around slowly to see sonny sleeping soundly beside me.

we must have fallen asleep watching that reality tv show because the tv was still on when i woke up.

i moved slightly as sonny stirred in his sleep.

i saw his eyes open as he smiled slightly. within a moment, his eyes snapped open and he jumped out of the bed.

"shit, i must've fallen asleep. i'm so so sorry ella. i, uh,"

"dom, relax, relax." i say, sitting up. "it's okay. we fell asleep out during the show, it's okay."

there was a long moment of silence.

"i, uh," he paused. "i should get ready for work."

"right."

from there, he walked out of the bedroom leaving me with my thoughts as i laid back on the pillow.

i checked my phone to see a text from my sister, valentina, asking if we were still on for breakfast.

i confirmed breakfast with her before i rolled out of bed to make myself a pot of coffee. we both needed it.

i made myself comfortable on the couch, sipping my coffee, and scrolling through my phone. sonny had emerged, fully dressed, hair styled, badge and gun on his hip, and a suit jacket in his hand.

"coffee is ready." i said before he could find a way to rush out the door.

i watched him look over at the coffee pot in the kitchen before he wandered over.

"thank you."

i raised my coffee cup in the air as a way to say you're welcome.

he took a seat on the chair as he sipped his coffee.

"any plans for today?" he then asks.

"i'm going to meet up with my sister for breakfast in a little bit."

"oh good!"
