i sat at that hospital all night with the victim's family. i already had multiple cups of coffee and sitting around waiting was killing me. i couldn't imagine what they were feeling.
the doctor to come out at some point to let us know that they would have to reset a bunch of her bones and they were stopping the internal bleeding.
"detective, can i ask you something?" the mother asks me.
"of course ma'am. what is it?"
"i know you work for special victims, but have you ever been through something like this?"
i sigh as i was about to give an answer my phone rang.
"i'm sorry, excuse me. i have to take this." she nods as i walk away before answering the phone.
"russo."
"hey partner, where are you?" sonny's voice rang through the phone.
"still at the hospital waiting for the vic to wake up."
"you're still there? you should go home, get some rest."
"i don't want to leave her family. i'm want to speak to her when she wakes up. i'm staying at the hospital carisi."
"you need to get some rest."
"i will do that when the case is over." i say before hanging up the phone.
as i returned to the family, i had found out that the vic had pulled through surgery and was in recovery. they told us about her injuries and the doctor told me that they had done the rape-kit and they had sent it to lab already.
the parents went in to see her first and i figured i would ask my questions later.
"you look exhausted you know." fin said as i looked up to see fin, amanda, and sonny standing there,
"i told carisi i was staying to interview the vic and help her family."
"rollins and fin are gonna stay with them. liv ordered me to take you home and make sure you stay there and sleep." sonny says.
"you've been up for more than 24 hours working this case and you're a newbie here." fin says as i laugh.
"i've been working in the nypd for eight years. it's not like i haven't done all nighters before."
"she's afraid of losing you too fast by you racking up hours to a point where you're drained." fin replies.
"car keys please." sonny says holding out his hand.
