"hey, where's ella?"
"she, uh, she's gone." i reply to rafael.
"wait, what?" olivia answered.
"before the elevator doors shut, she was crying. by the time i got downstairs, there was no sign of her."
"fuck." sal curses as we all turn our eyes to him. "i saw it when she was on the stand. the one thing she hates is people seeing her vulnerable. she hates being vulnerable to begin with. when she does, she goes out for a few hours to clear her head and then she comes back like nothing ever happened."
"she did that the first time he did this to her and when our father died." valentina admitted. "our father's death was the worst on her. she was on the scene and witnessed the shooting. she tried to keep him alive, she did everything right. by the time they got him into surgery, he was gone."
"shit." rafael curses. "and buchanan brought up both of those things."
"where does she usually go?"
"it hasn't happened in a while, so hard to say."
"i'll find her." i say.
"you know where she went?" christian asks.
"i have an idea."

i pulled up to the cemetery in staten island and saw her car parked.
sure enough, she was sitting by her father's grave.
"surprised you took the drive all the way out here partner."
she looked up at me from her place on the ground.
"i needed to talk to the one person who would be able to give me the best advice." ella replied. "i'm sorry, i just needed to get the hell out of that court house. i hope i didn't scare anyone shitless."
"buchanan struck a nerve on that stand, huh?"
"you have no idea."
there was a moment of silence between us.
"mind if i join you?" i then ask.
she nods as i sat down next to her on the grass and looked at the gravestone in front of us before looking back at her.
"i just wonder what my father would've said in this situation." she sighs. "he really tried to get justice for me."
