another day at the office at manhattan homicide. i was waiting to hear about my transfer to the manhattan special victims unit, the most elite squad in the new york city police department.
my mentor and good friend, nick amaro, had previously worked there and had been trying to convince me to transfer ever since i was promoted to detective a couple of years ago.
i highly doubt i was going to be transferred given that they had a detective that had been there for a year already.
according to nick, he was a good cop since they worked together for about a year before he left. he also told that their squad is tight, so new blood is often but that's in every house and i know it.
amaro took an early retirement after taking a bullet to the knee and moved out to california to be closer to his kids. before he left, he insisted that he was going to put in a good word for me with the sergeant.
"russo, can i see you for a moment?" my captain says.
i closed the file i was currently working on, getting up from my desk and make my way to his office.
he tells me to shut the door as he sat at his deck with a file in front of him.
"well russo, the nypd got your request about your transfer. we're gonna miss you kid."
"they're transferring me to special victims?"
"you bet. this is your last week here."
"wow."
"i'm proud of you ella, you've come so far since you've started here. you're a great detective, your father would've been proud. i'm gonna miss having my best detective around but svu is lucky to have you."
"thank you, captain." i smile.
the phone then rings as he quickly answers.
"yes, we'll be there as soon as we can." captain states, hangging up the phone. "well looks like you'll get to know some of your soon to be co-workers. we've got a case with svu."
"rape and homicide?"
captain nodded, gathering what he needed.
"i'll drive." i insisted, grabbing my keys off the desk as the captain follows close behind with two of my fellow detectives.
svu was already on the scene when we arrived.
their house was much closer than ours.
plus, traffic in manhattan is ALWAYS ridiculous.
as we let csu do their job, all the detectives got together behind the tape.
"detective carisi, svu." a tall man, with blue eyes with a strong staten island accent introduces himself to me as i approached.
"detective russo, homicide." i reply, shaking his hand before i meet the rest of team.
i might be working homicide as of right now, but from what i've seen from this case, svu is the most bad ass team in nypd and i couldn't wait to be a part of it.
