after a year on the job, everyone had stopped treating me as the rookie after a few months and i became part of the team, which meant no one was up my ass about the hours i worked, especially when i got really involved with cases.
barba was of course still acting like he was my older brother but he had always looked out for me, even when he was in college, and i was in middle school.
carisi and i have gotten a lot closer in the past year. after we officially became partners, he came over to my place a lot, when he could. we joke around a lot and we eat a lot when we have time. but, you know, cases keep us busy.
i was on duty, but barba called me and asked pay a visit to him for my own personal reasons and for a case.
"he's in a meeting, but go ahead inside detective." his assistant, carmen says.
"thank you." i smile letting myself into his office and sat down on one of his couches.
i looked at my phone to see a message from carisi.
sonny carisi see barba about the case yet?
ella russo waiting in his office he's in a meeting, his assistant said he should be out soon
as soon as i sent that text, rafael walked into the office.
"there's one of my favorite detectives at svu."
"i highly doubt that barba." i laugh.
"well it's true." he says. "so for the case file you sent over i can't charge him with anything unless you get more evidence or another witness that proves it's this perp since he's not cooperating."
"okay, but what about the witnesses testimony and the camera?"
"in that footage you barely see his face and that was one witness, that hasn't been so reliable may i add."
"you know as well as i do, things come back in pieces."
"for the victim, yes. but, being that she was in a public environment, we both know we need more witnesses that heard or saw something." rafa sips his coffee before continuing. "if we think this guy is good, get me more evidence, witnesses, anything."
"will do, thank you barba." i say.
i was finishing writing down what he had said before leaving his office.
i had just walked into the precinct when we got called for backup by olivia and fin. we all ran out of the squad room and into our cars.
