mentiras y risas
{Spanish} 》lies and laughterH a i l e e
A bad liar, that's what I am. The whole wide world knows that I can't lie properly even if my life depended on it. I avoided putting myself in situations that needs lies because I just can't. I start to stutter, sweat and I could barely form a coherent sentence. My heartbeats accelerate and I forget how to breath and that is the best case scenario.
The six of us were seated in the principle office. Edward had perused us to get some frozen yogurt before the first period starts and weirdly enough everybody agreed, except me. I protested, I didn't want to be late. I also didn't want to face the wrath of our principle. He was...vicious, very strict and his regulations didn't make any damn sense. He easily got mad so nobody did anything to anger him because his punishments were unbelievable. He, sometimes, turned a blind eye for the straight A's students which is what I am hoping for. The six of us have good grades despite Aries and Jeffery getting into trouble quite a lot.
"I told you this was a bad idea." I muttered to Edward.
"But the froyo was delicious, though." He murmured back with a slight grin. I shook my head at him before turning my gaze to the principle.
He sat behind his desk with his fingers intertwined. I could see fire and fury in his dark eyes that slightly sent shivers down my spine. He was creeping me out. The silence was sofficating the six of us.
"If looks could kill..." Nathan mumbled. I wanted to laugh but I knew it will only make things worse.
"I wasn't accepting this from any of you, especially Ms. Williams and Ms. Lee." Disappointment was obvious in his voice. His glared was more than enough to bring down my lies and send me trembling. He was scary, someone out of a horror movie.
"Why are you late? And don't try to fool me, I'll see right through your lies." Here goes nothing.
"Mr. Davis, I know that you are a man who likes kindness and likes to do good. We saw an old lady having trouble breathing so we drove her to a hospital." Edward lied. We didn't have time to fabricate any good lies and Edward was only one with a somewhat believable idea...or maybe it wasn't convincing enough. I could feel a drop of sweat falling on my eyebrow as he continued to lie to Mr. Davis. An urge, a bubble, formed in my throat. I just wanted to tell Mr. Davis the truth.
"Ms. Williams is that true?" He asked raising an eyebrow at me. I gulped and took too long to answer.
"Yes." I whispered. Mr. Davis hummed, clearly not convinced whatsoever. We are going to get busted.
"Well...since y'all so nice, you have detention as your next period. I also want you to write about 500 words about the importance of being on time." He narrowed his eyes. Most kids didn't write anything but I felt guilty enough as it is so I'm going to do it. The six of us nodded at him before he dismissed us to the library. We didn't have a detention classroom like other school, ours was the same as the library.
The librarian Mrs. Lopez greeted us with a smile on her face. She is the nicest of the staff. She is always smiling, she forgives easily and has a heart as big as Taxes. I have developed a lovely friendship with her, I usually came after classes to get some studying done or borrow a book and that's how I got to know her.
She shook her head with a small smile on her face as the six of us approached her.
"What have you done this time, boys? And you dragged those nice girls into it, too?" Her tone was anything but scowling. She was amused by us and I have came to the realisation that she probably knew the boys all too well since they spend quite some time in detention.
Nathan explained the story to her, he threw in some Spanish words here and there before she finally waved us off to sit. We took a seat on a round table next to the windows. Aries sat next to me and Ana sat on my other side with Nathan next to her.
"That was a terrible lie, Ed." Jeffery grumbled.
"I didn't see you coming up with any." Edward scoffed at him. He crossed his arms over his chest defensively.
"Calm down both of you, at least we didn't get a week long of detention after school." Nathan said and Ana nodded in agreement.
"Yeah, that would have been crucial." Edward said.
To be honest, I didn't mind getting froyo with them or being late because of it. Despite the cold October weather and my protest, I enjoyed it. I enjoyed the froyo, I enjoyed going there in Aries's car and I enjoyed their company. I don't get in trouble a lot but now it kind off seems fun. Ridiculously enough, I feel rebellious although I was only late for a few minutes. I smiled to myself as I attempted to write something down on my paper.
"What are you smiling about?" Aries asked. Amusement shining in his brown eyes.
"About today's adventure." I chuckled as he smiled at me. A smile that send tingles down my spine and cause butterflies to erupt in my stomach.
"I kinda liked getting in trouble." I chuckled again. The whole ordeal was funny to me, who imagined the goody-two-shoes Hailee Williams getting in trouble? I bet mom would be proud. My mom was the complete opposite of me. She is outgoing, she liked to have fun in normal people ways, she is an extrovert. She always jokes about me getting in trouble, she says she would be proud, she says I'm finally learning to live my life as a teenager.
"Did you now?" He chuckled at me. I smiled sheepishly at him as he continued to laugh. A joyous feeling rushed into my heart at the sound of his laugh. I stared at him as he threw his head back and laughed wholeheartedly with no care in the world. At that moment, I knew that it would be a loss if I let someone like him go. I knew that I would try my best not to leave him, not to break his heart, not to take away that laugh. That joyous laugh.
