I laid her down on the couch as the guys took their seats on the other couch. She looked troubled, like she was reliving what happened over and over again in her dreams. Her eyebrows were furrowed and I could see a tear escaping her closed eyes. I wiped it softly with my knuckles. The salty water seeped through my busted skin and burned a little but I couldn't care less. My solemn focus was her. She looked comfy in her oversized sweater, I wanted to lay next to her and cuddle her but that wasn't an option, we weren't on that level yet. I could tell she freaks out a little everytime she hugs me or I hug her.
I wanted to punch Marco then Nathan for driving her to that stupid party. What was he thinking? But a part of me knew that it wasn't really his fault. He couldn't have known Marco was going to be there.
The moment I saw Hailee's caller ID, I knew something wrong had happened. She rarely called. Both of us preferred texting.
When I picked up the phone, her breathing was ragged like she has just ran a marathon. I knew she was on the verge of having a panic attack. Besides she didn't greet me properly which wasn't her at all. She quickly told me where she was and who was with her before telling me to bring Jeffery. Then I heard her squeal before the line went dead. I flipped, that moment she hang up, I raced to my car and drove way over the speed limit to Jeffery's home. He was already dressed and ready to headed out to some other party. I filled him in and I drove us to Micheala's house.
I could barely register the amount of people that were in house. My eyes only looked for someone and someone only, Hailee. I couldn't find her inside the house so on our way to the back yard we found Edward.
We nearly broke the back door when I kicked it open which I admit was a little over board. The sight that I saw made my blood run cold. Hailee was wrapped up in that asshole's arms. She was struggling with tears in her eyes. Just thinking about it, makes me want to punch him again till he was black and blue. My breath hitched and my heart stopped beating for second. She was scared. I never wanted to see her like that ever again. It made me see red and I just lunged at him.
The rest was history but I was still mad about all of this as I sat on the ground with my back resting on the couch that she was laying on.
"Well...that was worse than my break up." Jeffery glared at Edward while Nathan let out a breath like laugh.
The room fell silent again.
"I'm sorry, dude. I never meant for anything bad to happen to Hailee." Nathan dropped his head in his hands.
"I know. I'm sorry for yelling at you earlier. It's not your fault." I sighed. It is true, it's just petty to hold a grudge against my bestfriend who had no control over the situation. My other two friends seemed confused at the exchange but didn't say a word. We continued to sit in comfortable silence after defusing the situation. Exhaustion washing over us like sea waves. I was sore all over and my knuckles bruised green and purple. My small blisters dried up. My hands looked horrible, like a colorful canvas but the art wasn't appealing.
One after the other went upstairs to clean up and go to bed in the guest rooms, I had two empty rooms. Nathan and Edward will have to share.
I wanted to take Hailee to my room upstairs but I waited a little. I was too sore to get up.
I glanced at Hailee as she started to murmur in her sleep. She started trashing on the couch before she sat up with a gasp. Her eyes filled with unshed tears. I quickly got up and sat in front of her on the couch. I held her face in my hands. She was breathing way too quickly. She couldn't breath as she continued to sob. She grasped at her throat as she let out strained sobs.
