Chapter Fourteen: Evan..

10k's Pov

"10k. Cover our flank. Don't let man or zombie follow us up." I nodded. After they left, I lit a cigarette. I needed it right now. The stress of having her here but not with me was killing me.. I wanted her to be mine..

I shot at a Z but missed. I took another puff of the cig.

"Here. Try it."  She held the cigarette out to me. "But I'm underage.." She laughed and barely smacked me in the arm. "Come on. Your at the prime of your life, it won't kill you."  Y/n's feet were swinging over the side of the roof.

I sighed and took a hold of it. I inhaled and instantly started coughing. Y/n burst out laughing. She took it from me, inhaling it. I stared at her lips while she inhaled and exhaled slowly. "This stuff is absolutely amazing they make me forget about all the shit I've been through."

She handed it back to me and I slowly inhaled. I heard the front door open, but I before I could hand her the cigarette back, I heard Pa chuckle. "Y/n, you aren't causing any trouble are ya?" She smiled, waving at him before taking the cig. "Of course not. Just having a ball." He smiled and started to walk back in. My ears heated up hearing his last comment. "I'm glad he has you to corrupt him."  Y/n smiled at me. "Me too."

I shot again, nailing the target. I looked up at the sky. "Y/n.. Do you even feel the same way?.."

Y/n's Pov

"Well wouldya look at that? Insubordinate curds can't take no for an answer. We'll see about that."  I groaned at the pain in my head. He hit me hard on the top of my head earlier when I kept muttering under my breath. Evan was out cold next to me.

Evan woke up randomly and pulled out his hidden pistol, aiming it at the guy. He pulled me up and started bolting. Within a second, the guys machine gun was trained on him and a clip was shot. We ran outta sight, and down a couple flights of stairs. Before we could go further, I noticed Ev trailing behind. I looked back and saw him fall against the wall. "Ev!" Evan looked at me, coughing up blood. "Y/n. Get outta here." I looked at him with scared eyes, seeing all the blood that was on his hand from his wound. "Not without you Ev.." Ev looked at me with a smile. "Get back to 10k. He... needs you." I held back my tears. "I need you.." We heard growls and I turned, no weapon in hand, to see a few Z's.

Ev grabbed my hand. "Please Y/n. You are a strong person, don't let me drag you down. Promise me you'll be strong for me and-  make it back." I whimpered. "Ev.." He handed me his favorite bandana, aimed his pistol and fired at one of the Z's. "There's your freedom princess." I covered my mouth as I saw one of the Z's dig into his leg. He cried out in pain and the rest dove onto him.

I let a single tear fall as I ran back up a flight of stairs and through a Z infested floor. My eyes clouded with anger and sadness. I couldn't cry. I had to fulfill my promise!

I got to the bottom floor after a few minutes and out the exit, straight towards the truck. I clenched my fist as I heard Garnett say "Wait.. Here she comes!"

I saw Doc with blood all over him climbing in the back. 10k's head perked up and I trailed my eyes up from the ground to him. Tears brimmed my eyes as I clenched the bandana. I started running for the truck and 10k got the gist and dropped his gun, hopping over the side of the truck.

Not even a second after his feet hit the ground, I dove into him, my arms wrapping around him and shoving his back into the truck roughly. He instantly wrapped his arms protectively around me. "Y-Y/n what's wrong?" I couldn't stop the tears long enough to answer. Addy looked at me in horror.

"Isn't that.. Evan's bandana...?"  He pulled me closer. My face buried in his neck.  Warren called out puppies and kittens and I felt myself giving out into exhaustion.
