"Maya..." I barely felt Molly's hand on my shoulder.
"It's fine." I shrugged it off. "I knew that was going to happen anyways. Congratulations!" I turned to give her a hug. "You'll do amazing." I couldn't let her see my sadness. I didn't want her to feel bad because she was better than me. That's just a bratty thing to do.
"And you'll be an amazing Becky." She gave me a hug too.
"Hey, Jen..." Grayson's hands hit my shoulders as he saw the list, quickly trailing off. "But..."
"I guess we're co-stars..." Molly shot him a fleeting smile, and he returned the reaction.
"I guess." Grayson grabbed my hand. "Come on, Robinski wanted to talk to us about something." I let him pull me along, thinking about what he could possibly need the two of us for.
Robinski is the last person I want to see right now.
"Thanks, Grayson." Robinski didn't even turn around to thank Grayson, who closed the choir door behind us.
"What did you need?" I asked cautiously.
"I just wanted to tell you two you did a terrific job at the concert. I've gotten so many compliments on how your voices blended and you're on your way to greatness."
If I'm on my way to greatness, then why didn't I get the main role? As hard as I tried, I couldn't stop the bitter thought from reaching the tip of my tongue. Luckily, Grayson saved me from myself.
"Thank you so much Mr. Robinski. We should probably get to class, then." He pulled me back out of the classroom. "I didn't really want to talk to him after I saw that cast list, honestly." He grinned at me. "Molly and I will be— sketchy at best, tragic at worst. We just don't have the right kind of chemistry." He winked.
What the hell does that mean?
A/N: real sorry, another short chapter. They'll be longer soon, I promise. I've just had a long couple of days here and wanted to have something to work off of when I started longer chapters again. Also, I'm thinking of deleting Aspen's story, or continuing it in a different book, unless anyone strongly objects. Leave me a comment or message me if you want her part to stay, otherwise... stay weird, lovelies💜.
