I walked in my front door, slamming it behind me.
"Hey, hon-"
"Don't talk to me." I glared at my mother.
"Girlie I gave birth to you, I can do what I want." She crossed her arms.
"Except put me on the list to see dad, I guess?" I mimicked her stance.
Her glare dissipated. "I'm so sorry."
"Sure." I headed up the stairs, ignoring her protests.
Setting my backpack on my chair, I grabbed my computer and flopped on my bed. 'Take Me Or Leave Me' blasted from my speakers, and I started thinking about how Moll and I should perform it. Closing my eyes, I decided that I'd let Molly take the lead on that one.
The music switched to 'If I Didn't Believe in You' and I quickly shut my computer. What was Mr. Robinski thinking, giving Grayson that song? Or even putting us on duets together? Or making us Belle and Beast? Everything seems connected, but I don't know how.
I pulled out my phone and put on Great Comet, skipping over No One Else. I sank into my pillow and let much-needed sleep wash over me. I fell into the deepest sleep I'd had since before Grayson.
"Maya!" Grayson fell into step with me and I quickly dodged between a couple of freshmen. My attempts didn't work. He stayed glued to my side.
"Maya, please listen." He begged. I turned to face him.
"Look. I took you home last night because I was the reason you didn't have a ride. That doesn't mean that everything's all good now, or that I forgave you for kissing me. Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to talk to Robinski." I stalked off, leaving Grayson to be trampled by the high school mob.
"Robinski, I got some questions!" I yelled, stepping into the choir room.
"Yes, Maya?" He pokes his head out from his office.
"What do you know that the rest of us don't?" I asked. "Since Grayson got here you've been giving us weird songs, and being all winky, and acting like you know something. What's up?" I demanded.
"Do you really want to know?" He asked.
"Yes. You're being weird. Well, more so than usual." I pouted.
"Hmmm... fine." He rolled his chair out into the room.
"Really?" His answer surprised me.
"Would you like me to change my answer?" He questioned.
"No, no. Tell me!" I sat down on the risers.
"Alright. Do you remember that paper cut you had?" I nodded. "When I shook Grayson's hand, he had one too. In the same spot." My eyes widened and Mr. Robinski simply turned his rolly chair around and wheeled back into his office.
Stunned, I headed to first hour.
