"Maya!" I heard Grayson chasing after us in the parking lot.
"Are we okay?" I look up at Molly, who was still letting me lean on her.
"Um..." She glanced behind her. I just barely shook my head. "Yeah. Of course. I should have helped you instead of getting mad, anyway. I mean, isn't it my job as your best friend to listen when you feel like that?" She asked sheepishly.
"I'm just glad we're still friends." I stopped leaning on her to find my keys, feeling a sense of dizziness.
"Maybe I should drive," Molly held out her hand.
"Didn't you drive here though?" It was then that I glanced over my shoulder. Grayson was standing there, heartbroken.
"No, actually. Grayson made me stay. I took the bus today since my brother needed the car for his game." She answered, shrugging.
"Huh." I handed over the keys but didn't get in the car. "Do you mind waiting for a minute?"
Molly beamed and nodded. "Take as long as you need."
I took a deep breath and walked over to where Grayson was standing, frozen in time.
"Hi." I couldn't look him in the eyes. What was I supposed to say? Sorry, I got really mad about you having a relationship even though I barely know you. No.
"Hi." He smiled at the ground, slightly.
"Listen, I-" I never got to finish that sentence, because before I could even decide what to say next, his mouth was on mine.
The kiss was soft, small, but I couldn't help but feel the thousands of words flowing behind it.
"But-" Once again, he cut me off.
"I'm sorry..." I pulled away. "You have a girlfriend." I turned and went back to the car, careful not to look back at him.
When I got back to the car, Molly was pretending to be very interested in her script.
"You saw everything?"
"Yeah." She gave me a toothy smile. "Why'd you turn so quickly? Isn't this what's been bothering you?"
"Well, yeah, I guess, but he has a girlfriend. Probably his soulmate, seeing that there's no point otherwise. I just don't get it." I turned the radio, trying to end the conversation. Right Hand Man from Something Rotten! came on, but Molly turned it off.
"Hey!" I protested, receiving a disapproving look. "I love that song!"
"You are not getting out of this conversation." She stated, pulling out of the parking lot. "Besides, we're going to my house so we can get you some food before you go home."
"There's nothing else to talk about. He kissed me, even though he has a girlfriend, and nothing else is going to happen. End of story." I looked over at her, seeing pursed lips and a raised brow.
"No."
"But you have to-"
"No."
"Maya, you need to talk to him about this." She scolded.
"Why? How is that conversation supposed to start? Hey, you kissed me, but you have a girlfriend. How about that?" I rolled my eyes.
"Don't roll your eyes. I don't want things to be awkward." She pouted. I suddenly figured out why she was pushing this so much. She doesn't want the musical to be weird since she has to be so close to Grayson for it.
"Yeah, well this is real life we're dealing with, not theatre." I snapped. "I can't believe this!"
"What?" Molly looked genuinely confused.
