"How much further, Ben?" the small girl asked, tripping over a large stone in her path. Ben, a few paces ahead, looked up and pointed to the horizon.
"It's just up that hill. Come on."
Rey, tired but willing to go anywhere with her friend, hurried to catch up. Not having time to tie it in a bun, her hair lied flat against her back, sticky with the humidity of the planet. No amount of brushing it away from her face would keep it from tickling her nose, and Ben laughed after she sneezed for the fifth time.
"You try being a girl," she muttered, spitting out a strand of her hair that had got caught in her mouth. She looked up to the black haired boy. "Although," she continued, touching his own locks from behind, "if you keep this growing any longer, people might mistake you for one."
Rey laughed as Ben scoffed, turning over his shoulder to feign hurt.
A few minutes later, the pair of children were standing at the top of the hill. Rey could hear the waves from the ocean beneath them crash against the beach, and she shivered. "What are we doing all the way over here?"
Ben tilted his head up. It was nearing sunset, and some of the stars were already showing in the sky. "Just wait," he whispered in response.
So, she waited. Sitting down on the sand, Rey pulled her legs up and watched as Ben followed. He plucked a few strands of nearby grass and began braiding them in a line. Rey wondered how he knew to do such a knot, but didn't ask. He coiled a few more strands before tying the ends together, creating a perfect circle. "Here," he said, handing Rey the headdress. "You can wear it."
The girl's eyes lit up as she carefully took it from Ben and placed it on her head. It was a little big, but didn't protest. She felt like a princess.
"Look up," Ben Solo said, catching her attention again. Blinking, she did so and gasped.
At first she thought millions of fireflies shimmered brightly above them, but Rey smiled as she realized they were stars. If she reached up, she swore she'd be able to touch them. What was even more impressive, however, was the moon. The sun's reflection from the ocean casted an orange hue across the sky, landing on the moon above.
"I wish I could stay here forever," Rey breathed, hypnotized in the beauty of the galaxy.
Ben nodded in agreement. "One day, I'm going to be up there. I'll go on adventures and look for new stars." He turned to Rey. She was listening, but continued to stare at the golden moon. Ben reached down and took one of her hands that was on the grass beneath them. She quickly found his eyes. "You can come with me, Rey."
The thought was tempting. She and Ben, piloting through the uncharted galaxies as partners. Perhaps, she thought, more than just friends.
But Rey knew her place. She was nothing— her birth inferior to the prince next to her. It would be improper, and she carefully took her hand back.
"It's a wonderful thought," she said, trying to ignore Ben's hurt face, "but what about my parents? They need me here. I need to take care of them."
Ben didn't want to argue, knowing it was a long chance that Rey would have said yes. She was grounded by the belief that she was incapable of doing more, and it saddened him. "Perhaps, then, I could convince you in someway to join me?" he teased, lightening the mood.
Rey smirked. "Perhaps."
"Well," Ben continued, "what is the one thing you want most?"
Rey seemed lost in thought for a moment. Her eyes sparkled. "Bring me the moon."
And though he knew it would be an impossible task, he promised.

A cute Reylo child one-shot. Yes, I know they're almost 10 years apart but whatever. This book is for creative imaginations.
