The next morning I was woken by Ashton and Luke shushing me. Confused, I rubbed my eyes and turned to see Michael still out cold. Ashton was hopping around on his feet and Luke was grinning at me – they were way too excited considering it was the morning.

“What the fuck?” I kept my voice low but angry. If looks could kill these boys wouldn’t have had time to answer my question as they'd already be six feet under.

Luke’s hand flew to my mouth, both of them shushing me again.

Too many icky boy hands were covering my mouth lately and I didn't even want to wonder what they did with those hands.

They grabbed one arm each and pulled me straight out of bed, much to my distaste. I was taken to Luke’s room, practically pushed through the door and spun round to watch them close and lock the door.

“Tell me what the hell is going on or I swear you will be six feet underground in about ten seconds!” I really wasn’t a morning person and I was greatly confused as Ashton covered the key hole with blue tac and Luke pushed multiple towels against the bottom of the door.

“Michael’s birthday.” Both the boys dropped down to the floor, facing me. It was then that I noticed the hundreds of papers scattered around and both their laptops sitting among the mess.

“What about it?” I sat down too seeing as my only way of escape was through the boys and their towel block.

“Well it’s soon. November, actually. We’ve been planning,” Ashton gestured around to the mess. “and I’ve decided I don’t hate you for being a distraction because you make Michael happy. After our tour with Hot Chelle Rae things got a little more serious and I was worried.”

He looked apologetic and my mind tugged on a memory of the boys telling me about their small tour and how it boosted their popularity. I knew they had a growing fanbase but they were in that calm stage for a band where they didn’t get spotted everywhere they went.

“November’s weather sucks though so we’ve decided we want to celebrate his birthday in October around Halloween…” Luke spun his laptop around and shoved it at me. I took it on my lap and inspected the webpage that read ‘HOW WOULD YOU SURVIVE THE ZOMBIE APOCOLYPSE?”

I scrolled down reading fake news reports of an apocalypse and missing people reports. It all looked surprisingly real and I couldn’t help but notice it was right up Michael’s street.

“It looks fucking amazing and there are loads to choose from!” Luke looked like he was about to start clapping and squealing like a rich girl who got a pony for Christmas.

“We really want to do the underground bunker one and the mall! Oh but the manor looked cool and there’s this overnight lake one too!” I laughed at Ashton’s excitement.

“So you want me to…?” I was still scrolling down the webpage and had clicked on the ‘booking’ section. It showed me pictures of the ‘zombie infested’ places and I had to admit they all looked amazing.

“Choose one! It’s going to be us and we were going to invite you girls too! Well Ashton wanted to invite Rosie,” this got Luke an elbow in his ribs and I raised my eyebrows at the two, “so I decided we couldn’t leave out Nicole and Michael’s mum insisted she pay his ticket.”

“£200 is a hell of a lot. Can everyone pay it?” I clicked on the ‘learn more’ button to read about what we would have to do for the zombie survival weekend.

“I will literally pay half of everyone’s money just please, please can we do it?” I skimmed through the FAQ of the weekend trip telling me that it used airsoft guns and we would be paired with an expert who would help us find shelter and food.

“I think Michael will love it. Make it a surprise and say it’s just a normal survival weekend and the airsoft guns are just precaution. Tell the guy when you book it, I’m sure they’ll be up for that.” This time the boys really did squeal and Ashton immediately started tapping away on his laptop.

“I’ll use my money and you guys can just transfer your money back into my bank. That sound cool?” I nodded, knowing he wasn’t going to listen to me speaking anyway.

“Natalie?” I heard a whine coming from the hallway outside. Michael sounded confused and I snorted at the image of him looking like a lost boy.

“Better go to lover boy.” Luke winked at me and I slapped the top of his head on my way out of his door.

“Babe why were you in there?” Michael spotted me closing Luke’s door and I turned to smile at him.

“I was having a chat with him about Ashton and Rosie.” Michael just nodded and walked over to me, wrapping his arms around me. He buried his head into my neck and yawned, his breath running down the front of the sweater I was wearing and I chuckled. “Is someone still tired?”

“Yeah. Want food.” His voice sounded like a babies. I tried to walk towards the kitchen but his grip on me tightened, pulling me closer to him. “Cuddling is better than food.”

“I’d choose food over you any day.” After pushing him away, I patted his head. He scowled at me as I slipped past him towards their kitchen.

“Natalie!” Calum cheered from their sofa which he had happily sprawled himself out on. Michael walked over to him and fell down on top of him, cuddling with Calum instead of me. I laughed as I heard Calum complain about Michael’s fat arse and telling him to get off. I was nearly in tears as I heard Michael replies asking for Luke because he was a better cuddler.

Catching my breath, I entered their kitchen and started looking through their cupboards. If it was anyone else’s house I would probably feel rude but it was different at theirs, I knew they wouldn’t care.

I found beans in one of the cupboards and tipped the can into the pan. I was a sucker for cheesy beans on toast and, as Michael was hungry, I was going to cook some for him too. I guessed the other boys had already had food due to the dirty plates that looked like they had vegemite (the most disgusting thing on earth) spread all over them.

Ashton came walking in, grinning at me as he started to wash the plates.

“I’m sorry about how I was. Luke talked to me and basically told me I was worrying for no reason.” He didn’t meet my eyes as I stopped grating. “This band means the world to me and the boys too. I’m just nervous about us growing.”

“It was understandable, Ashton.” I smiled at him and continued with the cheese making sure I had enough to make the cheesy beans just right.

“You make Michael so happy and you entertain us. Don’t leave any time soon, yeah?” I blushed like crazy now that I was fully awake and his ‘make Michael happy’ clicked in my brain. Little old me made Michael happy? I was glad, he was better when he was happy rather than annoyed.

Our eyes met and he grinned, even though he did look like he was embarrassed. “I wasn’t planning too, don’t worry."
