Synopsis: Kylo has returned from a mission that took longer than expected. He and Y/N are alone in their room, slow dancing.

The lights had gone out long ago, but we didn't care. A soft tune was coming out of the little box I'd somehow scavenged on a desolate planet, and Kylo and I were slow dancing. We weren't necessarily following any particular steps; we were simply enjoying each other's presence.
"I'm so sorry about the mission", he whispered. "I didn't think it would take so long."
"It's okay, Kylo. Don't worry. I survived."
"Still. I promised you I'd be back for our anniversary, and then I wasn't. I feel bad."
"You don't have to. These things were beyond your control. I know that you have a lot to do, and it would be childish of me to throw a temper tantrum. Plus, you're repaying it now." I smiled at him.
"You're the kindest person I've ever met, Y/N, you know that?"
I laughed. "I try to be. Thank you."
He let his chin rest atop my head and pulled me in a little more.
"You really are a genius, you know?", he said. "Things have gotten better since we started listening to your ideas."
"I told you."
"Yes. And I owe a lot to you for that."
"You already raised me to the position of General. What else could I ask of you? And I have you. That's all I need."
We went quiet for a moment, gently twirling to the soft music. It had no lyrics, yet I felt it in my soul.
I reached up and put my hand on his cheek.
"You're beautiful", I whispered.
"I'm not", he replied so quietly that it almost seemed like he'd said it to himself rather than to me.
"You are. Scar or no, you're beautiful."
He looked down. "It's ugly."
"No. And even if it was, it would not make you ugly."
"I made a mistake. I failed. And this scar will always remind me of that."
"You may have failed, but you're still alive and kicking, and you never gave up. That's what this scar means to me."
He didn't answer. I gently placed a kiss at the lower tip of his scar. He turned away ever so slightly, but I followed and kissed him right beneath his eye, where the scar was broadest.
"Don't", he said quietly.
"Does it hurt?", I asked.
"No. I just... I'm ashamed of it. And every time you look at me, I wonder how you can just look past it..."
"I don't have to look past it. You're beautiful just the way you are." I put a hand on his cheek, and he flinched, then relaxed into my touch. "None of us are perfect, Kylo. You're not. I'm not. And we don't need to be." A tear rolled down his cheek, and I wiped it away. "You are good enough. You are beautiful. And I love you just the way you are." I leaned in and kissed him.
"I love you, Y/N."
We swayed gently to the music, with our foreheads touching and our arms wrapped around each other. And that was all we needed in that moment.
