'This is the story of Dreamtale, the universe where the Tree of feelings lived, whose fruits were apples, half black and half golden.'
~Dreamtale Comic (Joku) Pg 1:):
"A long time ago, we had the knowledge of three trees that existed. The tree of Magic, the tree of Feelings, and the tree of Life."
Two little skeletons sat on the soft grass, one reading from a notebook.
"This story is the one of the tree of Feelings, the one that supplied all emotions that the multiverse would ever feel."
One was dressed in fancy silk clothing, all purple. His crown, with a crescent moon in the center, gleamed on his head as he read out of the book.
"Without these emotions, all worlds would be slow and boring, with everyone being like zombies. They would barely think, and life would be grey."
The smaller of the two skeletons wore an assortment of colors. Mostly baby blue and gold, both perfect for his carefree and happy nature. He looked over his brother's shoulder at the words written with extreme care in the little book.
"The tree bore not one, but two kinds of fruit. One side, the golden side, held all of the positive emotions of the entire multiverse. These feelings were feelings like bravery, determination, kindness, and the most powerful of them all, Love."
A warm breeze blew over the twins' heads, as if the very word Love could make any situation better. The golden one giggled.
"The darker side held the exact opposite emotions. They held fear, recklessness, and the strongest of all, HATE."
The atmosphere immediately got colder in response. The golden sibling cuddled closer to the violet one, who smiled and pulled him closer.
Putting the book down, the violet sibling sighed, "Dream, you'll be ok. It's just wind. Not a storm, at least not yet."
Dream, the golden guardian, only whimpered before sitting up and taking a breath. Then he smiled and giggled a little. "Keep reading! Keep reading!"
The violet one chuckled, picking up the book.
"There are a few people, however, that are accidentally supplied with more negativity than others. This makes them violent and dangerous. The ones that live in Dreamtale are especially dangerous, since they all intend to harm the tree. They figured that if they couldn't be happy, why should anyone else?"
Dream sighed. He had always disliked this part, because it didn't make sense. Why would someone want to hurt the tree? That would make everyone sad.
"Not only did they want to harm the tree," the violet one continued, "They wanted a golden fruit on their side. With a golden fruit, anything was possible. You were bold enough and powerful enough to do any task, and anyone would bow to your will."
"Nightmare?" Dream interrupted. Nightmare shifted his royal purple pupils to his brother. "Have you ever met someone like that?"
Nightmare laughed softly at his brother's innocence. "No," he responded, smoothing out his notebook's pages. "And I hope that I never will."
Continuing, Nightmare read on his best voice. "One of these bad people made their way to the tree to find that there was a woman there, her light green skin and emerald hair blending her in with the environment. The only thing that made her stand out was her bright pink flower-like dress. The bad person gave the guardian one chance to give her the golden fruit."
Both brothers became solemn at this point. "After the guardian refused, the bad person sent a sword right through her. In return, the guardian sent a thorny branch right through them, killing the evil person instantly."
"However, the wound was too large, and there was too much blood spilling out. The guardian knew she was dying. The tree would have died with her if she didn't think of something fast. She could fuse, but then the apples would be vulnerable."
Dream smiled. He always like how Nightmare read this part.
"Using the last of her strength, the guardian gathered all of the positive and negative sentiments that she could, and concentrated them. After a blast of brilliant light, there were two beings of pure emotion. One was made of positivity, one of negativity. They—"
"—Were us!" Dream cut in. Nightmare shot him a playful glare. "Sorry," Dream giggled, "Couldn't help myself."
"In that case," Nightmare mused, "You can finish this yourself." He pushed the notebook towards him.
Dream puffed up and huffed, "Fine! The positive spirit was named Dream, since he already was filled of wonder and hope. The negative spirit was named Nightmare, but only because his essence was the stark opposite of his brother's."
"The two were first put into a human form, but they were just too big! The forms..."
Dream paused and squinted.
"The forms... exploded?? Nightmare, do you remember that? Wow!"
The violet guardian laughed before responding, "No. Only mother remembers."
"After doing a bit of desperate searching, the guardian finally found a form that should work: a skeleton from 'Underswap' named Sans. Copying his form, the guardian quickly urged the spirits into the shells."
"It was, thankfully, a success! The two were safe, and the mother kissed them goodbye before finally fusing with the tree, and hence Dreamtale (and every other universe) was saved!!"
Dream threw his arms up at the last part, sending both into a fit of giggles.
And hence the story of our two guardians begins.
