"The people stepped back as tried to hide in the houses that were distant from the tree, hoping that the fight would end, praying so the winner would be the tiny guardian..."
~Dreamtale Comic (Joku) Pg 37:):
There was one thought in Dream's head: Save Nightmare, save Dreamtale, save the multiverse. As long as he could save his brother, everything would be alright. He could feel the grace of his mother behind his new soul, telling him that if he tried hard enough, if he gave it his all, then everything would be alright again.
The only thoughts in Nightmare's head went somewhere along the line of this: Get him out of your way. He is only an obstacle. The people need to pay. They all need to pay. Dream needs to pay. All of those negative thoughts fueled his anger, which fueled his power, which relied on negative thoughts. It was another vicious circle, but this time, Nightmare was the one drawing it.
He was finally in control, and he loved it.
Taking a deep breath, Dream tried to look intimidating. "Brother," he insisted desperately, "Please. We don't have to fight. We don't have to do any of this. I-I think that you've scared everyone enough. You can come back n-now..."
He trailed off as Nightmare started chuckling dangerously. "Oh, Dream," he mocked, "Sweet, innocent, naive Dream." Nightmare rubbed his forehead with one inky hand. "Scared them? You really think that I just wanted to scare them?"
Dream was shaking on the inside, but remained firm on the outside. No. He never thought that the being had just wanted to scare the people. If he had wanted to do that he would have just shown off his new power and then put it away. Then life would go back to mostly normal, with Nightmare being a bit feared but mostly normal.
Everything was far from normal now.
Before Dream could respond, Nightmare went on, saying, "If you had any idea what they had done to me, you would be by my side, fighting them."
Nightmare took a step forward, tendrils whipping in anticipation. "But," he growled lowly, making Dream's eye sockets widen, stepping back. "You have no idea what it was like to be hated. You have no idea what's it's like to be told that you're worthless."
His voice rose with every step, a small ringing sound backing him up. The townspeople shrunk back into the ruins in fear, hoping that they were well hidden.
Finally, Nightmare snapped. "YOU HAVE NO IDEA WHAT IT'S LIKE TO BE ME!"
His tendrils flew out, stabbing towards Dream. The latter ran away, doing an occasional flip over a stray tendril. Dream cocked his weapon, drawing on the happiness that still remained to create a small arrow. It flew into Nightmare's shoulder. He snarled in anger and pain, the bright blue arrow searing his cover.
The two brothers flared their auras, calling upon the multiverse's strength to aid them in the battle. Aubrey's tears and Crystal's fears did nothing to stop the fight.
