Homecoming is in a week and fortunately there hasn't been any supernatural problems. Maybe this year will be different. Calm enough for me to focus on the future.
Walking alone towards the exit, I watch as Senior girls cry in happiness as a Senior boy asks them to go to Homecoming. Drake hasn't asked me yet. Should I be worried?
"Allison!" I hear Ava say while waving me down.
I instantly turn around with a fake smile.
"What?" I say with interest.
"Noah just asked me to Homecoming!" she almost screams.
Looking over her shoulder I see Noah holding up a sign above the crowd of students that reads 'Will you go to Homecoming with me'.
"That's just..." I hesitate as I tense up, then immediately softening my posture, "great! I am so happy for you."
But before she could react, I quickly turned towards the door and stormed off. Ava's called my name, but the sounded muffled. Bursting through the front doors I headed to the parking lot. Locating my father's light blue jeep. I hopped inside and twisted my keys into the accelerator. It took a few times but eventually started. Stroking my hands through my dark hair, I take in a deep breath.
"Boo." I heard someone say from the rolled down passenger seat window.
Being startled, I see Drake leaning on the rim of the window I immediately fix my expression to hide my distress and smile.
"What's up?" I wonder.
"Do you wanna get some lunch. I'll pay." Drake adds hoping he can convince me.
I paused to think for a moment and process what he is really asking me and what the catch might be.
"Sure. Hop in." I anxiously answer with a relieved smile.
He reaches over into the car and unlocks it from the inside. There's a click and he whips the car door open. Hopping in and closing the door hard, I press on the gas to speed out of the parking lot.
"Where do you wanna go?" Drake curiously ponders.
"Feeling for a little fast food. Big Belly Burger?" I wondered with a weary smile.
Drake bit his lower lip as if deciding then he grimaced causing myself to frown. Then he suddenly smiled. Leaning over the middle compartment, he kissed me on the lips.
"Of course."
The drive to Big Belly Burger wasn't long at all. Drake and I caught up on things. Acting as if we haven't seen each other in years.
"Really?" I laughed.
"Yeah, so. Eli then put the tack on Mr. Ferris' seat and... Bang! The old man jumped practically jumped 10 feet in the air." Drake said with such humor as we sat down, waiting for our food to come to our table.
I snickered. Both of our eyes gazing at the other. Drake reached across the table to run his hand over mine.
"Well, here you go you two." a lady said with a dirty apron and grease all over face.
She set down the tray of high-calorie food before our faces. Then clapping her hands together, she left.
"Starving," Drake said with his eyes glued on the Cheeseburger and sweet potato fries in front of him.
Gently reaching for my hamburger, I took a large bite. 'Delicious' I thought to myself. Then to soften the hamburger chunks in my mouth. I pick up my diet coca-cola. Stuck in my own world of delicious food. I immediately reach for my garlic fries and dip them in the ranch they provided for me. Ava always thought ranch with fries was gross. But it is surprisingly very good.
"Tryouts coming soon," Drake muffled with a full mouth, "coach said it was an open position tryout."
That's when I glanced up from my plate. 'Open tryouts'. That means all positions are open and whatever you got last year, you might not get this year. Great."
"Really?" I wondered, my face frowning.
"Yeah. All positions will be open," Drake says and then pauses to sigh, "Reid said he's not going for captain. So that means we could get stuck with some freshy and have some sort of horrible year."
"Does Ava know about this?" I say, setting down my half-eaten hamburger on my occupied scratched plate.
"I assume." he mumbles.
"So what are you going to do about it? Convince Reid?" I questioned.
"Well, I was thinking...," he stops to give me nervous smile, "maybe that I could try out for captain."
My face lights up. But he seems to be surprised by the reaction he is getting. Probably expected me to protest.
"That's great!" I answer with a positive tone. "You should definitely go for it!"
"Really?" he curiously wonders.
"Yes!" I snap positively.
He smiles as he lowers his eyes. I leaning across the table and he does the same. Embracing each other with a promising kiss.
"I love you," Drake admits.
"Same," I respond with a warm hearted smile.
We quickly finish up our trays of food and leave 'Big Belly Burger'. Walking out of the fast food restaurant, we hold hands. He runs anxiously in front of me, grabbing my arm. Trailing behind him, I struggle to keep up and stop myself from smiling. I pass him the keys to the car and he gets in the driver's seat. Excitedly jumping into shotgun. We speed off to the woods.
Arriving at the edge of the trees where no houses, buildings or people to be in sight. I climb into the back. He does the same. Our lips never leaving the other. Thinking that if we ever let go, we might never go back. Feeling his hand run along my back. I swing my arm around his shoulder.
Both of us professing our love.
