A lion's lost pride

Shiro was silent.
This person before him was a familiar face, but it was impossible for them to stand before him.
The usually strong voice of the black paladin wavered, as his eyes prickled with tears.
"Pidge? How are you..." He couldn't seem to find the words.
"Yes. It's a lot to take in but right now you need to fly the black lion away from here. Towards a safe place, and then I can explain."
Shiro glances down at her partner, and looked up at her to ask the next logical question.
Predicting his question, she said swiftly,
"That is someone you know. He's not the one you left behind, he's like me. He's not from here."
He could still barely register what she was saying, but the words in the middle of her sentence cut deeply.
Not the one you left behind.
He saw nothing in her eyes for him that showed recognition, only fatigue and annoyance at his stuttering.
Just then a crackly voice sounded through the com.
"Shir......at was that? Yo.....the paladins....taken?
Where?!.....here is Allura?! Vrall....is....evacuates mostly.......are....alright?!"
It cut out and was garbled so not all of the message could be made out, but it was definitely Coran, and what he was trying to say was clear, for the most part.
And Shiro already dreaded returning to him.
How bad of a leader are you...you've lost them all...
Self depreciating thoughts continued to circulate in his head, and try as he may he could not push them aside.
He got closer to Vrall with the immobile blue lion in tow, the ice spreading closer to the cockpit.
Each cracking sound of ice shattering and growing made Shiro feel increasingly sick.
Vrall looked nearby, the ships of rebels fleeing off in many directions; a tactic that was used to disorient the Galra and then recoup later, once voltron had stopped them.
That wasn't going to happen now.
The castle of lions was growing larger and larger on the horizon, and Shiro pulled up his com.
"Allura we're almost at the castle, just stay with me now..."
Nothing.
"Allura? Please you need to respond ok, we're almost out of the worst now..."
The com was still silent, he looked out the window and was instantly faced with a horrific sight.
The blue lion was almost completely coated in ice.
"No no no please Allura.... please we need you... I'm so sorry about this all, and you must be in pain..."
He stopped to recuperate for a moment, then returned.
"We need you more than ever Allura."
He heard a small shallow breath on the other side but knew she was in a quickly sealing coffin, and he had to get her to the castle quick.
He sped off as fast as possible with the blue lion lagging behind; much heavier but nothing for the black lion considering its build.
He made it to the castle and flew into the black lion's spiral. He lowered down to the bottom of the hangar, and set the blue lion on the floor next to him.
He set the head of the black lion to the floor, and sprinted out towards the frozen lion.
"ALLURA!"
He heard nothing still.
He took a breath and stepped back a bit. He ran towards the blue lion and launched himself in the air.
He landed squarely on top and then lit up his robotic hand. It flowed a plum purple and he spotted the thickest ice on the lion's head.
It began to burn and sizzle, cutting through the thickest portions of ice. It took about a minuet but he got down to the lion's left eye.
When he saw it shine a bright yellow, his heart lit up a bit.
"Allura! I'm coming for you!"
He eyed the massive sheets of ice.
"But I'll have to change up my strategy a bit."
He began to light up his hand again and ran along the side of the lion. Ice sheets sagged in the heat and fell into a pool of water and half formed ice.
The shape of the massive feline ship began to take form out of the ice, massive yellow spots shining brightly, as the figure eventually began to move and attempt to stand.
Shiro saw that it was all off, but a strange panel on the side of the lion's left thigh was still covered, and it seemed to be growing from there. He shattered the ice wall, and pulled the panel out. It shone obsidian and was about a foot long square.
He saw that when it was attached to nothing it was docile, so he set it down, thinking it could be useful for something later.
"Shiroooo.....I can't move..." he heard the weak voice of the princess from the cockpit.
The blue lion stood up now, shaking all the water from its hinges; this being the second worse experience with water for it.
It lowered its head to the ground and opened for the black paladin, who rushed inside.
"Allura..." he trailed off when he saw her.
She was a mess; her face was ghostly pale, her hair was tangled in clumps and fell to the sides of her head, her eyes were rolled upwards and had a strange glow on them.
For a brief second she looked like a young Haggar to Shiro.
"Allura? Come here..." he picked her up and flinched.
Her body was ice cold and rigid; her weight was light for him but carrying her was still a struggle.
He walked slowly as to not slip with the fragile princess in her arms; fearing that at this temperature she would shatter the moment she hit the ground.
Just then he heard the hangar doors open.
"Shiro? Shiro!! Allura!! Lions!! SO MUCH WATER..."
Cow ran stopped before the massive puddle encircling the blue lion. It had managed to get near the black lions feet now too, lapping at the massive paws of the massive metal cat.
Coran walked around the puddle, searching for a way to Shiro. Shiro made it easy for him and walked through the puddle to him, water hitting the tall boots attached to his uniform.
Shiro set the princess gently in the ground and crouched with her shivering body, as her trusted advisor knelt down in horror.
"Princess!!"
He checked her pulse and felt her shoulder.
"She's as cold as the winter air!" He looked up at Shiro.
"What happened to the princess? And the other Paladins... I didn't get your complete message... why didn't they get to their hangars are they hurt??"
He looked so worried, so clearly ready to do anything for these people, people he didn't even lead...
It tore Shiro up inside.
"The Galra ship could create portals... it... sucked the other Paladins into separate portals... along with the other lions."
Coran's eyes widened in horror as he looked back down on the princess. He picked her up with some effort, and looked intensely back at Shiro.
"Was it the doing of the green lions abductors?"
Shiro has completely forgotten the prisoners in his ship until that moment, so focused on the blue lion and Allura.
"No... in fact... they are here to help... it's all too much to explain now just get Allura to a healing pod and get us as far from Vrall as possible."
Coran nodded and headed as cautiously and as quickly as he could.
Shiro turned back to the black lion, seeing it still had its massive head to the ground.
And in fact, two figures were peering out.
How...
The older Pidge stepped out and  addressed the bewildered Shiro.
"Your restraints are nothing to sneeze at, but they aren't enough for me to handle."
She went over to him, and he noticed she still had the glowing green bands on; she had gotten out of the makeshift wall restraints inside the black lion's cockpit.
Her partner also had the restraints on. Their mask still hung in their face, and they were very quiet.
Not a talker are they... Shiro thought.
"Take us to the central hub, or somewhere we can plan like the lounge room. The lounge is probably best." The older Pidge said.
The other figure only nodded.
"Ok. I'll take you there but you'll have those restraints on the whole time."
They both nodded and were lead by Shiro who walked behind them.
The two seemed very composed, but also had a sadness in their eyes as they walked the halls of the castle to the lounge.
The older Pidge spied The beginning of the rooms, and she swiftly looked the other direction.
These two are not right... what is going on here...
They reached the lounge and he motioned for the two to sit down.
They promptly sat, huddling together, as the other figure took of his mask.
It was clearly Lance, an older Lance, but him.
"Ugh finally that garish mask is off me. Can we please eat something? Or sleep? Last time I slept felt like 10 doboshes ago..."
He leaned back and rubbed his eyes with his restrained left hand.
Lance?! They were so quiet... that's not like him...
Shiro thought.
Than again, this is no time to question the impossible.
Coran rushes into the room, looking right at the black paladin.
"Shiro! I put Allura in a pod... I saw in the castle you went here, why-"
He looked over at the two sitting on the couch swiftly, than looked back at Shiro.
"And-"
He than spun around again, eyeing the two in shock.
"Pi....Pidge? Lance? What... how... are you..."
The older Pidge held up a hand.
"We are not the same Pidge and Lance that were kidnapped Coran. It may be good for you two to sit down."
Shiro and Coran followed suit, taking up a chair opposite to the two unfamiliar friends.
"This is hard to explain... all I'll say is we are not from here. We are in a way, but we are from-"
"Another reality!" The older Lance cut her off, waving his hands in a gesture of mocked awe.
"It's not nearly as incredible as it sounds." Pidge  said scornfully.
"What?! Where are the others-" Coran tried to say, before he was cut off.
"We have come to warm you, the Galra you face are not the biggest problem to you. The people that did that to your friends are looming over you more menacingly. Sadly, the people we need are all scattered... and time is not on our side. We need to get your friends back."
Shiro looked at the bewildered Coran, and then at the two in-front.
"But how... they could be anywhere."
The older Pidge only sighed, about to respond when the older Lance spoke up.
"Actually, we can find them. Our ship, if not completely damaged, can detect where the paladins who are near went, if they haven't left already. The teleduvs here are only able to transport in the immediate reality, but they really could be anywhere I suppose..." Lance said, sitting back in contemplation.
Shiro didn't follow his thought pattern, and just shook his head and put his head in his hands.
He didn't know much about what was going on, but knows one thing:
His friends were possibly anywhere in the universe, possibly hurt or kidnapped by otherworldly Galra, and the princess was frozen and hurt.
And I know this is all my fault.
