"Are we going to drive today?" Aednat asked as she and Rosemary walked into the portable building on the Denby High School campus. "I want to try the little blue one."
"That's a Studebaker Lark, "David said as he opened the door for them.
"It is a cute car," Rosemary said.
"I doubt very much if you'll actually drive today," David said, "they spend a couple of days in your text book and talking about the rules."
"I got the rules down, stop on red and don't hit the pedestrians!" Aednat said happily. David laughed.
"It's a bit more complicated than that Nit," David said, "You both seem really excited."
"We are," Rosemary replied.
They sat in the class for what seemed as an eternity as the instructor droned on and on about combustion, four cycle something or another and something called the dash panel. Aednat had dosed off by the time the lesson ended and was very disappointed as they left the class.
"We have our first text next class," Rosemary said.
"On what?"
"The lecture and the first two chapters."
"I haven't even drove!" Aednat said in a woebegone voice and David laughed and gave her a quick kiss.
"Be careful big bro," Rosemary said, "you don't want to be caught kissing your sister." David laughed.
"I'll just have to kiss you too."
"EW-W-W!" Rosemary said teasing.
"Are you coming for our first game tomorrow?" Aednat said sweetly.
"Aednat will actually be wearing shoes," Rosemary said.
"I'm not crazy, this summer we played using a tennis ball, and the game balls are real hard and hurt even with the shin guards on."
"I will definitely be there."
"We decided to be witches this Halloween," Aednat said as fiddled she with the radio dial. They both had removed their shoes and socks and had their feet propped up on the dash.
"Isn't seventeen a little old for begging?"
"I don't think so," Rosemary said, "and it will be so much fun."
"OUR SONG!" Aednat shouted as she turned the radio way up and she and Rosemary started singing "Young Love", then David turned into Huston-Whittier.
"We're not going home?"
"No, thought I'd take my favorite girls to Sander's for a real hot fudge Sundae."
"I love hot fudge!" Aednat said loudly.
"How did that become 'our' song?"
"We danced when they played it at the dance. Have you forgotten?"
"I remember dancing with a very pretty girl."
"Yup, you danced with me too," Rosemary teased. By the time David had parked they had their shoes on.
"Davie, I've never been to a movie,"
"Yes you have."
"Not at that place."
"You want me to take you to the Civic Theater?"
"We can sit way in the back and kiss."
"How can I say no to that?" David said as he held the door open and the girls walked into Sander's and found a booth.
