Chapter 11 The Car Wash

Aednat and Rosemary began every morning skinny dipping in the lake. Stacy was the first of the cousins to join them and she was soon followed by the other fourteen year olds Gloria and Joanne. Ulfy watched them enter the water and ran across the dock and jumped in. "Ulfy," Aednat said laughing as she held on to the thick neck of the wolf pulling herself onto its back. Rosemary grabbed the tale and the great wolf pulled them through the water. "I don't know what's more fun." Rosemary said, "Swimming naked with the fish or almost getting caught?"

"Almost getting caught is more fun by a long shot," Aednat said, then laughed

"My Mom would ground me for life if we get caught!" Stacy said then giggled.

"Rosemary has already been grounded for life," Aednat teased.

"What for?" Gloria asked.

"Swimming to Canada," Rosemary replied. "Are you going to try water skiing today again Nit?"

"I don't know, I hang on the rope and just get pulled out of my skis."

"That was funny when you lost the bottoms of your swim suit," Stacy said.

"Davey dived until he found them. He said he was keeping them and I would have to run around bottomless all day, but finally let me have them for a kiss."

"Are we sailing today?" Joanne asked.

"I believe it's your families turn with the Lightning," Rosemary said. "Lets borrow the boat tonight and sail in the moonlight."

"Naked?" Stacy teased.

"I'm game," Gloria said giggling.

"If we go, we all wear life jackets," Rosemary said firmly.

"And we are taking David," Aednat added.

Late that night the Lightning sailed in the moonlight. They had moderate breeze and crossed back and forth on the lake circling Loud Island. They went as far as the third foot damn and sailed home. The young women were already tired from the day's events when they started. David had the girls handle the tiller and the sheets acting as the instructor and with encouragement they handled everything well. They would repeat the adventure several times.

"We might sleep in tomorrow," Aednat whispered as they lay together in bed.

"You look tired sweetheart," David said softly. Aednat was already sleeping and did not reply. The next morning, in spite of yesterday's fatigue the five members of the Polar Bear Club met for their morning swim.

"We're doing the car wash today after lunch," Aednat said as they wrapped in towels.

"We're all wearing bathing suits," Rosemary said. "You can borrow one of our bikinis."

"I'm not sure..." Stacy began.

"Then wear a pair of cutoff jeans over your suit," Rosemary said, "No need to alarm the parental units."

"What are you wearing?" Gloria asked.

"Our yellow polka-dot bikinis!" Rosemary said. "We'll have cut offs and a shirt on until we get there." After lunch the five of them sat in the back of Ted's pickup with Ulfy as they drove to the gas station. They had two hoses and buckets ready, car wash, sponges and several towels. They made a sign saying 'All Girl Car Wash' and took turns standing at the curb side waving a flag. Ulfy sat majestically in the shade watching. It did not take long for cars to line up as they began washing the cars. They climbed on the cars sponging them with soapy water and using a soft brush as needed. They were all in bathing suits, barefoot and thoroughly wet as they sprayed the cars and each other with the hoses.

They were all surprised as David drove to the car wash in his father's station wagon. The aunts and uncles also coming and laughing at them as they washed the cars.

"I think that one has been through three times," Aednat whispered.

"The one with all the boys?"

"Yup."

They were all exuberant and singing in the back of the pickup truck as they arrived back at camp. "We each made five dollars!" Stacy shouted as they jumped out of the truck bed.

"We came by to watch you," Paul said. "You put on quite a show."

"It was so much fun Dad!" Stacy added.

"What were you and Rosie waving from the back of the truck on the way home?" David asked.

"Our bikini tops Davey, we were drying them," Aednat giggled and kissed him.

"I'm going to spank your bare little bottom when we get to our cabin," he whispered. Aednat turned her back to him and wiggled her bottom.

"This bottom Davey?"

"Tuefel!"

"I'm a little devil," Aednat sang in a whispered voice into David's ear then bit him.

The time at the camp passed quickly and finally it was time for all to leave. The polar bear club met for the last time as the members hugged all in tears as they stood on the dock dressed in towels. "This has been my best summer ever!" Stacy said, "Can't thank you enough for saving me from drowning."

"You'll enjoy high school," Rosemary said, "it's a lot of fun. Freshman year was a blast."

"We have to do our club next summer," Gloria said, Joanne nodding in agreement.

"Perhaps next year Nit will actually stand up on skis."

"I didn't know I was supposed to STAND on the skis!" Aednat teased. "We are all sisters now."

One by one the cars were packed and they began the long ride home. Aednat and Rosemary again sharing the area behind the second seat. They lay under the blanket and Aednat worked on the runes, changing each of the rune characters into their modern equivalent. "Have you puzzled it out yet?" Rosemary asked.

"Still no idea what so ever."

"MOM! Am I still grounded?" Rosemary asked.

"I haven't decided yet."

"I was an angel, ask Aednat."

"A skinny dipping, bikini wearing, angel Rose?" Rosemary and Aednat laughed together.

"Yes Mom!"
