When David returned from the bakery the girls had usurped the entire living room. They had sleeping bags and pillows rolled out. His father apparently had started a fire in the fireplace and they were watching a scary movie as they dug through their bags of candy swapping back and forth. Aednat had a large pile of chocolates on the ground in front of her, "I love chocolate!" she exclaimed. David's mother walked into the room with five glasses of root beer on a tray.

"Do you girls remember the rule we have here for slumber parties?"

"No one is allowed to sleep!" Aednat said.

"That's true, if you can keep the noise down you are expected to stay up all night."

"We don't have school tomorrow, we have a three day weekend," Susan said as she took a sip of root beer with ice cream. "This is so good, I've never had root beer with ice cream."

"With all your candy I don't expect you to be hungry, but if you are I left sandwiches in the fridge."

"When did this rule start?" David asked his mother.

"You never had sleep overs," she replied.

"If I had only known." David sat apparently watching the movie but in actuality he was enjoying watching Aednat being silly with her group of friends. She fascinated him laughing and wrestling with the other girls. The girls had obviously helped themselves to his tee shirts again and all five of them were dressed in them. He finally excused himself and showering went to bed. He could hear the girls talking softly and laughing as he lay in bed reading. When he turned on the fan all their noise was drowned out and he slept. The sun had just began to peek above the horizon when he felt Aednat crawl into bed with him.

"Hi Davey," she whispered.

"Won't your friends miss you?"

"They're out totally and I was cold."

"You are freezing cold half pint," David whispered as he embraced her, "Well let me warm you up," David kissed her and she returned the kiss. Aednat returned to the living room just as her friends were beginning to stir.

"Where did you go Nit?" Susan asked.

"I had a shower, there still is some hot water, I can get you a towel." By the time they were all moving David and his mother were in the kitchen making pancakes and sausage and William was drinking coffee and manning the toaster. Even with all the candy consumed they all had hearty appetites.

"Do you have any chocolate left Nit?" David teased.

"No, I did save you a piece, but I ate it this morning."

"I never want to see chocolate again!" Nancy moaned and her friends laughed.

"Headache?" Ruth asked. Nancy nodded affirmative, so Ruth gave her an aspirin, "Chocolate always gives me a headache," Ruth whispered.

Later the five friends walked the wolves over to Wayne Elementary School to swing on the swings. "Do you think we're getting too old for the playground," Rosemary said pensively.

"I'll never be too old," Aednat said, "I'm going to swing until I'm 104." That had the others laughing.

"Mom said we can all help at the bakery if we want," Rosemary said.

"Can we taste the coffee too?" Nancy asked.

"I don't like coffee," Aednat said.

"Mom will let you have a coffee," Rosemary assured her friends, so after walking the wolves home they then walked over to the bakery.
