Ryan's Pov
Weeks and weeks after the first beating it happened all the time. Every single time I did something wrong, I got punched for it. The littlest thing, I got hit for. I hated it, but I couldn't do anything about it. It's so infuriating. Just knowing that your defenseless all the time. I tried to fight back but I just got beat harder. That's the worst feeling. Trying to stand up for yourself and getting knocked right back down. I hated it.
Looking in the mirror I can still see the black and blue bruises all over my once beautiful face. My cheek is still swollen and I can hardly see out of my right eye.
"I love you too Jace." I said to him and hung up.
Max decided to walk in at that exact moment. "Who was that?" He asked.
"Jace." I stated. No point in lying.
"I thought I told you not to talk to him."
"You said I couldn't see him. You never said I couldn't talk to him." I said.
"Don't talk to him either. I didn't know I had to say that. I just figured it was common sense." He replied.
"Nope. With me you got to be more specific." I said snottily.
He raised a brow."Are you getting smart with me?"
"Does it sound like I'm getting smart with you?" I asked. I was so tired of being pushed around by him. It so irritating. Having to watch what I say all the time.
I felt the blow coming before it even happened. I was expecting it. He kicked me, he punched me, he slapped me.
Don't fight back Ryan, It'll only make it worse.
Max was at work so I called Jace to see what he was up to.
"Hey Ryan. How are you?" Jace asked. That's all he ever asks me. How are you? What happened to How you doing? Why can't he ask me that? Why is that so fucking hard?
Hehe, fucking hard. I'm so stupid. Laughing at my own jokes.
"Hey Jace. I'm uh...fine?" I said it like a question. I hated lying to him. He would know I was lying to him anyway.
He sighed. "Ryan you know you don't have to lie to me."
"I know. It's just an automatic reflex. I'm sorry." I said.
"It's okay, Ryan. Hey, want to do something today?" He asked.
"Uh sure. Just let me call Max and see what time he gets off of work today." He said okay and I hung up. Calling Max would be tricky because I don't want him to be suspicious. And I'll have to be back before he gets back.
I dialed his number.
"Hello?"
"Hey It's me. Ryan." I said.
"Hey, My love. How are you?" There goes that damn question again.
"I'm fine. I just need to ask you something." I said.
"Ask away."
"What time do you get off of work today?" I asked sweetly.
"Well, It's a late shift so I'd say about 11. Why?" He asked. He didn't sound suspicious, just genuinely concerned. It's time like this I was he wasn't an asshole.
"I was just wondering. I wanted to make dinner for us." I said quickly. That was a lie. A damn lie. If he believes that he's stupid.
"Okay, Love. See you later, I have to get ready for work." He said and hung up.
