Ava's POV
Parker's little declaration about wanting me had me in shock. I wasn't expecting that answer and I knew he was probably just joking around, but it still caught me off guard. Anyways, he didn't kiss me, like most of you were probably expecting. Instead, he opened the door and stepped inside, pulling me with him. That's when he kissed me.
He shut the front door after I stepped inside, and without another word, kissed me. He moved until my back was pressed against the door, and that's when I jumped, so I could wrap my legs around his waist. After a few more minutes of things started to heat up even more. That's when I broke away.
"I've got to go home." I whispered to him. He laid his head on my shoulder and groaned. I let out a light laugh and kissed his forehead. "I'll see you tomorrow at church."
"Fine." He pouted as he pecked my lips. I gave him yet another kiss, then I finally left.
Once I was in the car, I let out a content sigh. Who would have ever known that I would fall for Parker. At first I dreaded the fact that he would live near me for the summer.. and now, I was making out with him. It made no sense. That's when I frowned.
I had kissed the guy multiple times since the night before. I wasn't sure what that meant. We weren't dating, we weren't anything.. we were just Parker and Ava and we were obviously attracted to each other. I didn't know what to make of that. I knew that I needed to discuss with him what all of this meant.. but at the same time I was a little scared to find out.
I parked Mama's car in it's regular spot and let out a sigh. I would worry about Parker later, at that moment though, I needed to make sure my Mama was okay. I still couldn't believe that Andrew would be such a jerk about it. He just needed to accept responsibility. He was the one who stayed out all night and didn't call, that was his fault. It wasn't Daddy's fault, just because he wasn't there for the first three years of our lives.
As I stepped through the front door, I heard laughter and footsteps, then the slamming of the screen door and knew that Noel was coming in from the backyard. I peeked into the kitchen and saw her grab two red Popsicles from the freezer.
She was covered from head to toe in mud. She was dressed in a pair of shorts and a T-shirt that had her schools logo on it. It was then, that I realized that she hadn't taken off her muddy flip flops when she entered the house, which meant the kitchen floor was now covered in clay and dirt as well. She didn't notice that I was there and I didn't make my presence known either.
I watched in amusement as she tore the wrapper off of the Popsicle and took a bite of it. She glanced around her and made sure no one was watching before she walked back out the back door. Probably to take the other Popsicle to Blaine.
I walked down the hall a few more steps and arrived at the door to my parents room. I softly tapped on the door and then peeked inside. She was putting the freshly washed sheets back onto her bed.
"Hey Mama.." I said as I stepped inside.
"What are you doing back so soon? I thought you and Parker were swimming."
"Well.. I just wanted to come back." She turned to look at me.
"You came to check on me." She saw right through me.
"Um.. Yes.. I'm sorry Andrew was being a jerk."
"Ava, you do realize that I'm the parent right? I'm suppose to worry about you, not the other way around."
"I just wanted to make sure you were okay."
"I'm fine Sweetheart. I know he wasn't directing it at me." I could tell she didn't want to talk about it. That's how she was. She never wanted anyone to be concerned about her, she wanted to take care of everyone else.
