I couldn't stop thinking about her.
Annabeth.
For the rest of the day after we spoke in her cabin, she was on my mind.
Everything Lacy said just went in one ear and out of the other because I couldn't focus on anything but her.
At dinner I didn't really eat anything because I kept glancing over at the Athena table. Stealing looks at Annabeth.
Now I'm laying in bed deciding when I should head over to her cabin to talk to her.
I mean what if I get in trouble by Chiron? Or Mr. D? I still don't really understand the rules and all that.
Whatever, I want to talk to her. So I quietly got up out of my bed and slipped out of the cabin.
I walked across the grass to the Athena cabin. I was pretty paranoid so I kept looking around. Hoping no one was around to see me.
Once I reached the door to the cabin I didn't know what to do. I couldn't just knock because that would wake up the other children of Athena.
But I couldn't just walk in. It's not my cabin.
I had no idea what to do, so I just sat there at the door, trying to psyche myself up to do something.
Just at that moment the door opened and a came face to face with Annabeth. She was inches away and I could feel her breath on my face.
Blushing, I took a step back and looked away. "Um hey Annabeth."
"Piper. I wasn't sure whether you were coming. I was just on my way to go to your cabin."
"And miss an opportunity to get to know another fellow demigod, ha ha, no way." I said nervously.
Gods(that's something I picked up around here) why was I nervous?
"Haha well I'm glad you came. Here let's go somewhere a little more quiet." Annabeth took my hand and led me toward the tree line into the forest.
I was focused on our hands. They fit perfectly, like they were meant to be together. And it felt so..right. So familiar.
We went deeper into the forest until the torches from camp could no longer be seen. It was chilly outside and bearable.
Annabeth let go of my hand and sat down with her back against one of the towering trees. She patted a spot next to her, which I gladly took.
"So..what is it you want to talk about?" I asked, saying something to break the silence.
"Do I seem familiar to you? Because you sure seem familiar to me?" She asked.
"Uh yeah, you do seem a little familiar." I responded.
She was staring up at the stars. "Strange, isn't it? You told me your name and it rang a bell inside my mind. But I couldn't quite find where I know it from."
"Yeah, I feel the same way. Lacy was saying how you're a daughter of Athena, and right away bells started ringing. And when you held my hand in your cabin..and just now..it...."
"It what?" She asked curiously.
"It felt like we had done it a million times before." I replied. I then looked up at the blue night sky as well. "I dunno, it just seems so right."
Annabeth took my hand which took me by surprise. "I get what you mean. I get this warm feeling when I'm around you." She said.
I nodded. I couldn't quite describe how I felt in that moment. Her soft, elegant hands wrapped up with mine. It really did feel like we've done this before.
But I've never met Annabeth before, I'm sure of it! I've never held hands with anyone before (besides the occasional holding of my father's hand as we crossed the road when I was younger).
Annabeth let out a sigh and squeezed my hand before letting it drop to the forest floor. "I'm stumped. I have no explanation for why you seem so damn familiar." She threw up her hands in exasperation. "Maybe the gods have something to do with it. They're always messing up people's lives."
I chuckled. "What?" Annabeth asked.
"Nothing just...what would the gods have to do with this? Did they wipe our memories because we were such an awesome dynamic duo they couldn't possibly live with us together?" I questioned.
"Well...yeah. Something like that." Annabeth exclaimed.
"Well whatever it is, at least we're here together now. That's all that matters right?"
"I guess." She shrugged as she stood up. She bent over and lent me a hand, pulling me up from the ground.
"Thanks. You know it'll be a great pleasure to learn more about you Annabeth."
"Same to you. Hopefully we can figure out what all this is."
"Right. Let's save that for tomorrow, because I'm pretty tired." I said, letting out a long yawn.
"Me too. We better head back to camp now." Annabeth said.
And so we did, walking back to the camp in silence.
