I was making my way over to our spot in the woods. The same spot we met every night at 8, (We had been meeting at midnight the past few nights, but changed it to 8) by what I think is the biggest tree there. We were always meeting at that spot at the same time, the only exceptions were if one of us was busy with other camp stuff or too sick to get all the way over there. This particular night was freezing. I was shaking by the time I reached our tree. Good thing I was prepared.
Annabeth was already sitting by the trunk playing with the pebbles on the ground. She jumped up when I stepped on a crunchy leaf. "Hi Piper. Gods look at you! Your lips are blue, maybe we should go to one of our cabin we can sit in the bathroom to not disturb-"
"Annie, please. It's okay. I brought stuff."
"Oh." She sat down. "What did you bring? A blanket? There's no way you brought a blanket because I don't see one and you can't be hiding it on you because I don't see any-"
I laughed. "I did not bring a blanket. I brought something else." I sat down next to her, closer than I think I've ever sat before. I noticed she was looking at me sorta strangely. I blushed and scooted away. "Sorry I, uh, don't know why I sat so close."
"It's fine Piper, come here." She pulled on my arm and scooted me even closer to her. "There. That's way better. So what did you bring to save us from this cold night? A heated blanket?" She asked.
"This." I pulled out a box of matches.
"Where did you get these?" Annabeth inquired, pulling the box out of my hands. "They don't sell these at the store here."
"I know. They don't sell them here because we're not supposed to have matches to play with. It's quite stupid actually because they think it's dangerous but they let us fake battle with swords and then send us to battle real dangerous monsters without adult supervision. Plus the Hephaestus cabin has a whole forge with hot metals and fire and stuff like seriously. Anyway, I sneaked it in at the beginning of this year."
"Why did you even bring them? What would you have used them for?"
I shrugged, "I don't know. Just in case of emergency you know? Always be prepared right?" I then left Annabeth's side and starting gathering dry wood and large rocks. We made a ring out of the large rocks and stack most of the dry wood in a pile inside. I struck the match and for a second just sat there staring at the flame.
"What's wrong? Aren't you gonna light the fire?"
"Sorry, I just realized that fire really is hot right? Hot like..you."
She rolled her eyes and lightly punched my shoulder. "Piper McLean, what a player."
I chuckled and finally threw the match into the pile of wood. It all immediately caught fire. I laid my head on Annabeth's shoulder. It was such a romantic moment to be with her by the fire.
"So..Piper...I just want to clarify something."
"What would you like to clarify?"
"Well, you like me and I like you right?"
"I like you. Do you like me?"
"I do like you."
"We like each other, so what?"
"Does that mean we're dating?"
"Well, we haven't made it official."
"Okay." She stared into the fire for a while before turning to look at me say, "Piper, will you be my girlfriend?"
"Only if you go on a date with me." I said in response.
She laughed. "That's kinda confusing, but okay, deal. How about tomorrow afternoon? Let's say 1pm? At this spot? I'll plan something special."
