“Glen.  You’ve got to go. We’ve sorted it, we’ve even paid for you to have a counsellor!”

I stand there in front of Glen, blocking his escape to the car behind me.  The forlorn bruised bambi look on his face doesn’t wash with me.

“I want to be better.  But I don’t think I can do this you guys. I’m not strong enough...” he sighs, looking at the floor but his eyes slowly creep up to my face.

“Please, for us. More importantly for you because you’re the most important person here.  Please...”  I force a smile when I’m feeling more than down in the dumps.

“Listen to her Glen. We all want to help you.  It’s 3 months that’s all just please go...”  Mark takes Glen’s arm, pulling him towards the door of the rehab centre while my heart breaks.

Mark returns a few minutes later, dragging his feet with a look on his face I just can’t place.  His eyes flick straight past Danny and hook onto me as he walks over to me.

“You need to come inside.  They want to talk to you.”

Those few words strike fear into me, what would they want with me...

I follow Mark into the centre, it’s drafty and cold. The staff look like they haven’t slept in days and the patient I see being wheeled past me doesn’t look any better.  I really don’t think I want Glen to stay here.

“Mark I don’t...”

“Hello!  You must be Evie? Can we have a little chat?”

A small brunette rushes over to me peering up at my confused face, all my defences flush to the surface causing me to take a step back from her.

“It’s ok. It’s nothing to worry about, just a few papers to sign and a chat about Glen’s progress while he’s here.” She chirps, an overzealous smile plastered all over her face. What is this, happy camp because none of those patients look like they’re having a good time.

“Go Evie...” mark grumbles, giving my back a push in her direction.

She jitters ahead of me, mumbling about not being scared or whatever she’s saying. All I’m worried about is why I’m here in the first place, I’m not the one in rehab.  We walk through a white hall to a small room, littered with anti- drinking posters over the walls.

I can barely see her over the desk she’s so short but I’m too distracted by the papers on the desk, a picture of Glen and other things are spread out and sorted while she fusses around for something she’s lost.

“Ok Miss. Glen’s named you as his next of kin I know you’re not his family but he seems to want you involved in this more than anyone I suggest.”

Ok I see what he’s doing. Keeping me involved, keeping me close to get through whatever this is going to be.  Idiot.  I have enough to deal with I can’t deal with him too. I’m angry with him. Even more so now.

“Right.  So, what do I have to do?” I grumble trying to hide my distain over the fact I’m being dragged into his mess once again.

“I know this isn’t ideal, Evie but as much as you don’t like it he needs help. You’re the only one that he wants.  I’m aware of what happened to you both, and why he wants you as his...helper in this.  If you want him to get better...”  she sighs.

But her words spark off the flames and the anger sours out and I yell at her, slamming both fists on the table in fury.

“Who the fuck do you think you are?  Telling me I’m the only one he wants. Saying how you know what happened to us both.  You mean what happened to me!  He did this to himself, his stupid decision made all this mess!”  I shriek
