"(Y/N), after close examination of your credentials, your application has been accepted. You have the skills that S.T.A.R.S. Alpha Team require, and now have a set final interview date with Captain Albert Wesker on Thursday, February 29th, 1996 in the RPD Operations Conference Room at 8:15. Congratulations on entering the last step of your journey to becoming part of the RPD community, Good Luck!"
You stood at your desk reading the note over and over again but still could not believe your eyes. Your whole life you had lived in Raccoon City, you even stayed went to the local college instead of going to one in New York like all of your friends. You had been working for the RPD as a Patrol Officer for a few years after college, but you didn't think that qualified you enough to be considered for a spot on the S.T.A.R.S. team, especially not the Alpha Team. You had never even met the Chief one on one before, but here you were receiving a letter from his desk telling you a special team thinks you have what it takes to join them. From what you heard about it in the brief presentation all of the Officers were given, was that it was an extremely elite S.W.A.T. like team brought in to work with the police department to handle the more extreme cases as part of the Mayor's clean up plan "Bright Raccoon 21." Though you were told it would be nearly impossible to get into you were all encouraged to submit applications anyway. You weren't even going to consider putting in an application until Marvin (your current boss) walked over to you with an application and a pen. He set it down in front of you with a smile and told you that 'it couldn't hurt to try'. Shrugging to yourself and think "what the hell" you filled out the application and handed it to the receptionist on your way out.
It wasn't until you left that you noticed your paper was the only one she was holding meaning yours was the very first application handed in. "I guess being first isn't always the worst." you thought to yourself. Setting down the letter on your desk you got up to go and get yourself some breakfast from the vending machines around the corner. For you, the worst part of the job was waking up early and going to bed late as you enjoyed your sleep, as much as the next person. You did enjoy your current job at the station, but the S.T.A.R.S. team paid much better than most any other job at the station with less menial labor. At the vending machine, you decided to pick up a bottle of Juicy Raccoon and a Honey Bun in celebration of your interview. Popping off the top of the bottle on the side of the machine you took a sip of the cherry flavored soda before heading back to your desk. Sitting back down with your nutritious breakfast you began to eat while looking over your work for the day. It seemed like a pretty easy Wednesday, all you had to do was finish the paperwork from your cases earlier in the week and turn it in. You opened your calendar to write down the exact details of your interview tomorrow so you wouldn't forget, but when you reached over to where you left your letter there was nothing there. You flipped up your keyboard and searched under your honey bun before you heard a familiar laugh behind you. You turned around to see Marvin holding the letter along with his daily cup of coffee. "Looking for something?" he asked as he handed you back the letter. "Thanks for the heart attack Marvin." you playfully retorted as you took the letter back and started typing it into your calendar. "Wakes you up better than soda does." he commented while pulling up a chair beside you. "By the way congratulations on the new job." he added while clinking his cup against my soda. "It's only an interview, I don't have a new job." You explained without looking up from your keyboard. "Yet." he interjected. "You don't have a new job yet, but I believe in you. You'll get it if you want it." He said while putting a caring hand on your back. "Who says I want it? I'm not even sure I'm going t the interview tomorrow." you said openly, not even sure yourself about whether or not you wanted the responsibility the new job would put on you. "Well for someone who is deciding whether or not they are going to an interview you sure are trying to make sure you don't forget you have one. It's your choice though, and if you don't get the job you'll still have the best boss in the world." he said jokingly before walking away from my desk.
The rest of the day went by very slowly, even though you didn't have a lot of work to do it took nearly all day to complete. Your mind was distracted by the interview. At the end of the day, you packed your things up and left after saying your usual goodbyes to the staff you passed on your way out. Even the drive home seemed to take an eternity, but when you finally got home you decided to take a break from thinking about work. Turning on your T.V. and reheating last night's takeout you sat down and ate while watching your favorite T.V. show. After relaxing, and cleaning up your apartment to stall for time you knew you would have to come to a final decision before getting ready for bed. So you thought to yourself...
"I want the job, so I go to the interview." #3
"I do not want the job, but it would be rude to skip the interview." #2
"I can't go to the interview, it was a mistake to submit my application." #1
