RING RING RING!
You were awakened from your slumber to a familiar ringing, but it was not the sound of your alarm. Your phone was going off, instinctively you answered it to shut off the noise, but didn't bother to check who it was. "Hello?" you asked sleepily. "(Y/n) you up?" a voice you recognized asked. It was Enrico sounding as awake as ever. "Yes, boss!" you responded back much more alertly than before as you were terrified you had somehow overslept your shift. "Good sorry to bother you so early, I know you're off the clock right now but I just got a call from Captain Wesker. It looks like the Chief's up to something again. Would you be willing to come down to the station a little later today and help assemble some things for some kind of festival? It'll be just a few hours more than usual, and you'll get paid overtime for it. I just need to give Wesker a head count within the hour." he explained. "Yes of course Sir." you responded cheerfully despite really not wanting to. "Good. I'll see you around 1 then (y/n), have a nice day." he added before hanging up. You mumbled a groggy 'you too' to yourself before putting your phone back down and checking the time. 4 am, you'd only been home for like four hours and most certainly weren't sleeping that whole time. You were going to kill the Chief, and Wesker for that matter, for interrupting your and your entire team's sleep like that... but you'd do it later, after you got some more sleep.
You had a hard time getting back to sleep after that and when it finally was your time to get up and your alarm went off it was safe to say you were less than happy to have agreed to show up early. Still, you felt obligated to help out your team whenever they needed it and rolled out of bed to get ready. Going about your daily routine you got ready a bit slower than usual, but it didn't seem too bad as you went about it. You only realized you were wrong when you caught sight of the kitchen stove's clock reading 1:15. Your heart skipped a beat as you rushed around your apartment to try and get to ready, if you hurried you might be able to make it to the station right at 1:30 but honestly your chances of getting across town at this hour that fast were very close to zero. You'd actually probably make it to the station faster if you walked there with how bad traffic could get in town. Still with having just woken up you didn't feel like walking too much and decided that the public transportation system was your best option. Quickly finishing up, running out of your apartment and down the hall, then running back down the hall to lock your door, you eventually ran over to the nearest railway and waited for a car to come.
Nearly out of breath and panting heavily you noticed you weren't the only one waiting. "Sorry about that, just in a hurry." you explained awkwardly between breaths. "Hey, we've all been there before. Where're you headed?" he asked laughing off any sort of discomfort you might've had in the situation. "Police Station, I'm a member of the new S.T.A.R.S. unit." You explained while taking a seat next to him. "Aren't you a little late to the ceremony, it's already been on the morning news." he joked a little bit, probably wondering how you could have missed it completely and still have somehow made it on the team. "Nah I'm a part of Bravo we don't get to be shown off, we just get to come in and help save Alpha team's ass four hours before our shift starts." you joked back with him, taking a moment to both vent a bit and unwind waiting for the trolley in good company. He laughed back and you smiled at him not really thinking he would find you amusing. "Well then do you mind if I join you, I'm on my way to the station too. I'm a reporter." he confessed while showing you his very own press badge with the name 'Ben Bertolucci printed on it in bold letters. "You sure you aren't the late one? Like you said ceremony's over." you laughed back at him. "Yeah well I have an exclusive interview with the chief scheduled this afternoon on the whole thing, but in the meantime I'd love to ask you some questions. If you'd be alright with that?" he asked politely, but you really didn't trust lawyers or reporters much, especially in your line of work.
You'd seen them spin some pretty weird tales just to get a sell-able story. He sensed your hesitation immediately. "It can be off record if you want. I won't say you're from S.T.A.R.S. and you don't even have to tell me your name, just a few short simple questions on the way to the station." he pleaded with you urgently as the trolley pulled up to the station to let out and collect passengers. You considered it a moment and really couldn't find the harm in it if you just worded yourself carefully and you could certainly just not answer any question you didn't want to, plus he seemed nice enough to you and gave you a fairly good excuse to be late. 'Surely Enrico couldn't blame you if you told him you got caught up answering questions about S.T.A.R.S. on today of all days.' You thought to yourself before nodding at the reporter. "Yes?" he asked, making sure that's what the nod meant. "Yes." you confirmed while standing up to climb aboard. "Yes!" he shouted while quickly jumping up himself to pass you in the small car and lead you to a seat next to him.
