Alpha's Offspring

Chapter 5

        "What?" I asked softly. "I said, I'm giving the position of-" "I heard you." I interrupted. "Chance, why? This was what you've been dreaming of since we were little. Why back out?" "I have my reasons." Chance looked away. "But why?" I asked. 

        "Because you were born for it." He said. "You are a true alpha. You can figure out what to do and keep this pack safe. I can only protect Jade." He smiled a little. "Also, I can't stand the thought of ripping into my little sister." I was scared and it showed. "You'll be okay. Besides, your mate is an alpha." He walked away.       

        I began to panic. I knew all the privileges of being the alpha of the pack but I also knew all the responsibilities. If you decide to fight and a life is lost, that loss is on you. 

        Everyone looks up to you to lead and guide them. I knew Chance was wrong, I'm not fit to be alpha. I began to sweat. I'll admit, maybe I overreacted. "Alima!" It was Ignasio. My vision was going dark and I fell to the floor.

        I woke up on my bed. Zara was sitting at the foot of it. I guess she was on watch this time. I cleared my throat and she turned around. "Just in time princess." She teased. I growled softly. But, it was true that I was a princess due to my dad. I just hate being called that. "Don't call me that." I said. 

        Zara giggled. "Sorry, Tyree's having a meeting tonight when the sun sets." She stood up. "Why?" I asked. Zara shrugged. "Hell if I know." She started to walk away. "Oh, one more thing." She turned around. "The packs hunting later. Sabine's going to let us know when." Zara whipped around and walked out of my room. 

        I stumbled out of bed and into the living room. Chance was sitting at the edge of the couch twiddling his thumbs. He looked up and saw me. "Alima!" He said. "Look, if you freaked out cause I...you know." "You mean dropped out of the position of alpha." I said in a flat voice. "Shh, keep it down." "Wait, you haven't told anyone?!" 

        "Well would you?" He scolded. "Have you at least told Jade?" I asked. Chance looked around nervously. "You're pathetic." I stomped out of the room. Chance ran after me and blocked my way. "Promise you won't tell Mom and Dad." He said. "Why?" I put my hands on my hips. "Of all people they deserve to know." 

        "Just...promise please." He sounded worried. "Fine. I'll see you later at the group hunt." We can hunt whenever but once a week we have a pack hunt and since Dad's having a meeting I guess they thought this was the perfect time. I found the others sitting around waiting for my mom. "Hey sleeping beauty's up." Deven teased. I was surprised to see Dimitri there. Chance wouldn't look at me, he also payed no attention to Jade. 

        "Chance told me."  Dimitri linked me. "About him giving the position of alpha to us?" "Yeah."  Dimitri said. "What about your dad? Won't he be looking for you to be the next in line?"  Dimitri chuckled. "My dad doesn't roll like that. The beta next for the generation. I may be the alpha's son, but in my pack it's the beta's time to shine."  "When to you think this hunt will be?" Nico asked. 

        "I'm itching to sink my fangs into something." Zara smirked. She must have sent something to his mind that made him growl playfully. Honestly, if it was from Zara I don't even want to know. "Get a room." Ignasio murmured. "Maybe we will." Nico smirked. Ignasio's eyes widened as if he wasn't expecting Nico to say something like that. "Wow Nico," Nia said. "I never thought you could be like that." 

        "It's amazing what a mate can do." Zara said while running her finger down his chest. I rolled my eyes. "Later." Nico growled. Zara pouted and crossed her arms. Nico laughed. Deven burst out laughing and Nia stared at him. He quickly stopped. "Looks like someone has the leash." Ignasio teased. "Oh go choke on a bone." Deven said. "Why are you here anyway?" I asked Dimitri. "Is it a problem that I am?" His eyes were soft so I knew that he was teasing. "No, I was just curious." Dimitri chuckled.
