Dimitri and I were with Zoran training the next morning before the mate meeting. I was under control of most of my abilities by now. The only one I didn't know how to control was where I can attack with my mind. "Is there anything that lets you know if it happens?" Zoran asked. I thought for a moment. Zoran sighed. "Try it on that dummy over there." Dimitri said. I focused on it and used my ability. I realized that I send waves towards it and an invisible shield surrounds it.
When I released it from my grasp Zoran was waiting for an answer. "There's a shield that surrounds it." I told him. "Only you can see it then." Dimitri said. "We didn't see a thing."
A voice came through the speakers. "The mate meeting will start in 15 minutes. All wolves report to their mates immediately. The first pack will be the Cadience pack. As always, the upcoming alpha's will go first."
Zoran spoke. "I have to go. See you kids soon." He smiled at us and left. "I guess we better go to your pack." Dimitri said. I nodded. When we returned, Jade, Nia and Clem were all laughing. Zara was leaning against the wall. She noticed me and spoke. "You here to join the glamour party?" She mocked. "Oh, also the guys are in the other room." Zara said to Dimitri.
Dimitri left. I stood next to Zara. Honestly, I wasn't exactly a girly girl, but I wasn't a bad girl like Zara either. I was in the middle but was leaning more towards Zara.
"Is Nico excited about becoming official mates?" I asked. Zara snickered. "Duh. Males always are." "What about you?" Zara glared at me and rolled her eyes. "Kinda. I mean I love him and all but the thought of being so attached to him bothers me. I mean what if something happens to him." Her voice went from sane to worried.
"The pack won't let that happen, besides he is Ignasio's little brother." "By five minutes." Zara put in. Mom walked through the door. Probably for some last minute speech, my instincts were right. "When you four girls go into that cabin, it's just going to be you and the Alpha. Don't be nervous and-" "I think we're prepared Sabine." Zara said. "Yes well, congratulations to all of you."
A voice came over the speakers. "Will the upcoming alpha's of the Cadience pack be at the cabin in thirty minutes. Thank you." Dimitri and the others walked in along with my dad. He winked at me and then glared at Dimitri. I understood this. I was his daughter and I was getting a mate. It wasn't rocket science. "Dad, do you mind not staring at my mate?" I asked.
"Sorry." We waited around for us to be told to head to the cabin. "The Cadience pack upcoming alpha's are ready to see the Alpha." I was so nervous. We walked up to the open door. "You ready?" Dimitri asked. "As ready as I'll ever be." I sighed. Dimitri cupped my chin. "Hey, everything will be okay." He said. "I'll be there for you, always." I smiled and we shifted. I huffed and walked into the cabin.
I yelped at the sight that lay before us. Dimitri stared in shock. I went into a crouch and teared up. I nuzzled into his fur. The sight in front of us was Zoran, sprawled out in his wolf form. He was bleeding. I heard slight breathing. He's still alive! I thought. I shifted. "Go get the Alpha female!" I told Dimitri. He nodded and scurried off. I turned my antetion back to Zoran.
I remembered my power, control to attack with the mind. I foucoused my attention on him. I thought of healing him. I closed my eyes and prayed it would work. I opened them and he lay spawled out. I failed. "I guess I need more practice. I'm so sorry." I cried.
The Alpha female emerged and forced us out. She called on the all the packs healers.
Dimitri and I were waiting for the news. The stars were starting to appear. All the healers walked out of the cabin with sad faces. I waited for the worse. The Alpha female walked out with her head down. She looked up at us. "The Alpha...is dead." She walked away slowly. I walked back into the cabin. Zoran was cleaned and prepped for burial. I couldn't believe that I had seen him alive, and happy only hours before. I inspected him. "Dimitri, look. Wolf bite marks." "So a wolf killed him." He thought for a moment.
He roared and flew out the door. I followed him. Tarence was making out with Izzy when Dimitri ripped them away. He grabbed Tarence by the throat and pinned him against the wall. "I know you did it! You killed him so you could take his place!" Dimitri's grip was getting stronger. "What the hell?! I never killed anyone!" "Do you even know what happened?" I asked. I thought news spread fast around here.
"No! No one told me anyone was killed!" I took a breath. "The Alpha is dead." Tarence froze. "You're lying. What kind of prank is this?" Dimitri dropped him. Tarence was coughing and sputtering. "You'll pay for that one mutt." Tarence mumbled. "I'm not lying Tarence. He's dead."
We heard a howl and looked where it came from. It was Zoran's mate, saying goodbye. I shifted and joined her. Soon enough, everyone knew and joined the chorus.
Our howls died down. Who would kill the Alpha? I saw his body being drug by two wolves. The Alpha female approached us. "I know my mate was very fond of you two. Would you like to help with the burial?" Dimitri and I nodded. "Come. My name is Elen by the way." "I'm Alima, daughter of-" "Of Tyree and Sabine yes I know." She took Zoran's ruff in her mouth. I crawled under him and put him on my back. Elen released him and tilted her head towards me. Dimitri took his tail in his mouth so it wouldn't drag. "He deserves more than to be drug." I told her. "Thank you." She lowered her head for us.
I walked forward with Zoran on my back. We walked to the hole that was dug for him and gently put him in it. We walked away and let the council bury him. "Goodbye Zoran, thanks for everything." I howled one more time in honor of the great leader. I padded away. All the packs were gathered around. I shifted as they all were.
"It is with a heavy heart that I take over my brothers position as Alpha. His death is a tragady. The mate meeting will be moved to two months from now." The guy walked away. The alpha's of the packs were enraged. "This is custom! It's been this way forever!" Randy, the alpha of the Weston pack, said. "I didn't know that the Alpha had a brother." Melody said. I looked to her. "Me either. I guess he just didn't mention him." I turned around and ran into the new Alpha. "You're the daughter of Tyree and Sabine right? Alima is it?" "Um...yes?" I said. "I heard my brother was fond of you two. My name is Silas." "Nice to meet you." I said. Dimitri growled softly.
I elbowed him and he stopped. "You are very beautiful." Silas said. He played with my hair. Dimitri was about to lose it. "Uh, thanks. But don't you have a mate?" Silas chuckled. "No, I never found her." Silas was still playing with my hair. "Let her go before I put a hole in your thigh." Dimitri snarled. "I assume he's your mate." I nodded. "Shame, you could've been mine. Well, I should go now. Until tomorrow." Silas walked away and Dimitri was eyeing him. "There's something weird about him." I said. "Other than him trying to steal away someone else's mate?" Dimitri growled. "His eyes were a mix of orange and red. His hair was pitch black. Besides, Zoran didn't mention he had a brother."
"I can see why." I kissed his cheek. "Is my big wolf jealous?" I teased. "Maybe." I laughed. Zara stumbled up to us. "Somethings not right about the new Alpha." She glanced over at his cabin. "You too?" "You sense the same thing?" She asked. I nodded.
"Looks like we're stuck here for two more months." Zara grumbled. The rest of our pack was forming now. "Who killed the Alpha anyway?" Ignasio said. "Who would have a motive?" Dimitri nudged me. "We should probably work on our...abilities." He murmured. I nodded. "I'll see you guys later."
Even after his death, the night was crystal clear with a slight breeze. "You ready?" Dimitri asked. I shook my head. "It seems impossible without him. The last thing I want to do is tell the new Alpha."
Dimitri sighed. "I have the same feeling." We stood there for minutes on end. The wind picked up and swirled around us. Zoran appeared before us. "I may not be there to help train you two for the battle to come, but you know enough to work on them on your own." "Battle?" Dimitri asked. "Evil dwells in the hearts of those here. Some of which you know, others you don't. You were given these powers to defeat it." Zoran was serious. "How will we know when to attack?" Dimitri asked. "You won't, there is no way to know. When the evil is at it's peak, you'll know." "How do we know who it is?" I asked. "Evil will reveal its self in time."
Zoran was fading away. The wind died down as he vanished. I looked at Dimitri. His emerald eyes were confused. "Let's just head back to the cabin." He said. I nodded and we ran off back to the cabin.
