Alpha's Offspring

Chapter 10

        "Where exactly are we training at?"  Nico asked. "Because wherever it is it's pretty far." "Aww is someones paws getting sore?"  Ignasio teased. Nico snapped at him. I rolled my eyes and continued to follow my mother. "It's not far, we're going to the river."  Jade groaned. Twigs cracked under our paws. "Good thing we aren't hunting."  Clem stated. "Twigs are everywhere and its muddy."  She put her paw down into the mud which made a squishing sound. 

        "Here we are."  Mom waded into the river and began to swim. Clem whimpered softly. "What's wrong?"  Jade asked. "I can't swim very well."  Jade wadded in and signaled for Clem to follow. "Climb on my back, I'll carry you across. Also, if you want later I can teach you how to swim when your a wolf." "Thanks."  The current wasn't very strong and the river was down making it an easy crossing. 

        Chance got to the other side and shook his fur, spraying water everywhere. Igansio dunked Nico and laughed. Nico surfaced and inhaled a breath. He shot a glare at his brother. Ignasio swam off and left Nico alone with Nia. Her violet eyes were shining in the light. 

        I got to the other side and waited for the others. Dimitri was staring at me. Water droplets hung from my fur and was glittering in the sunlight. "What?"  I asked. "Nothing. Just the way your fur is sparkling."  

        Everyone was on the other side. Jade shook her fur. "What was the point of crossing?"  She asked. "You aren't hot anymore are you? Now, to the training. I will divide you into two groups, one the invading pack, the other the home pack. The home group has to defend their turf from the invaders. Whoever wins gets to go on the group hunt tonight." 

        Deven wagged his tail and Jade bounced up and down. "Invaders are Ignasio, Dimitri, Jade, myself and Tyree. The rest of us are defending our terf. Invaders, work out a plan of attack. Now move!"  The pack broke apart. My group was debating. Mom spoke. "We need two scouts. Nico and Deven."  They nodded and went to find a scout point. 

        Nia, Zara, Chance, and myself awaited the training. Zara was crouched down, ready to spring at any moment. "This is gonna be fun." "Oh, one more thing everyone."  Mom said. "You can do a full on attack, but no serious damage."  Deven sat on top of a rock while Nico paced back and forth awaiting the attack. Nico padded around looking for any signs of them.

        I lied down while Nia and Chance played. They jumped around playfully. I heard a twig snap somewhere in the trees. Nico heard it too. I stared into the dark woods. A deer poked her head out and flicked her ears when she saw us. She retreated back into the forest. 

        I let out a huff and put my head on my paws. Nia rolled over me and I barked at her. She stood up and smirked a little. Chance jumped on me and nibbled my ears. I shook him off and jumped on top of him. I stood over him and leaned closer. I licked his ear and bounded away. Chance shook his head in annoyance. I laughed and trotted over to Nico. 

        I heard a splash of water and turned my head. There was nothing. Deven was on edge. Zara was still in her position looking around, hackles raised. Chance was growling softly. Deven howled as Dimitri jumped the rock and landed in the water with a splash. The others ran around it. Deven jumped on Ignasio and they wrestled. Dad thrashed around as Nia was clinging to his ruff. Dimitri was about to attack chance when he was intercepted by Zara. She wrestled him to the ground.

        A smile formed across her face. Jade shoved Nia off of my father and continued her assault. Dad's eyes met mine. He ran forward. I jumped over him and whipped around. He wrestled me to the ground. His jaws opened. I wiggled out from under him and climbed on top of his back, setting him off balance. My plan failed. He rolled over sending me all the way into the water. I released him. He grabbed my scruff and drug me back onto dry land. He stood over me and put his jaws around my mouth. He didn't penetrate. He moved away and smiled. "You just lost your land."  Dimitri, Dad, Jade, Ignasio and Clem howled in triumph.
