Chapter 1
June fifteenth, 2009
The monster sauntered behind the older woman, walking on the side walk. The woman known as Melissa McCann was walking home from a night out with her girlfriends. She never thought of all the potential dangers that lingered around the city of New York. Those thoughts never ran through her head before making the decision to walk on an old back road. A road where all you could see was darkness, and the ambiance of the city a few miles away.
She clutched onto her purse, as she could feel someone’s presence behind her. Beginning to speed up her pace, she turned her head slightly to find a tall, husky man just twenty feet behind her.
The man was very hard to recognize considering he was wearing black khaki pants and a charcoal hoodie, shielding half of his face. The other half was partially recognizable because the moon, which sat high in the inky black heavens above shining down, illuminating everything, but just slightly. The man appeared to be staring down at the ground, while his one arm was placed behind his back.
As Melissa's breathing and pace rapidly increased, so did the man's...
He began speed walking which later turned to sprinting. He took the old woman's body within his, using only one arm, covering her mouth in the process. The man then began to drag her across the deserted road, entering into an ally, beating her as they went. Melissa tried to scream, but it only made the monster's avail greater because, the more she resisted him, the more he hit her.
She pleaded with him, asking what he wanted, and if she could give him anything to make him stop. The man shook his head no, as he revealed what was in his hand, behind his back. A small shovel used for traveling in motor homes. He raised the shovel over his head, and forcefully flung down his arm, striking Melissa McCann on the side of her head.
Causing her skull casing to fracture was just the first step of his plan. The next was to watch her suffer. Then the final step in his mischievous plan was to watch her die. He stood there laughing over her mangled body. Melissa's eyes where closed and she looked lifeless. The man reached into his back pocket and pulled out a handgun, he pointed it straight at her chest, and fired. The firearm jerked him backwards, but he shot her.
Little did he know that she was already dead before shooting her. The monster, now murderer, took in a breath and walked away, leaving Melissa McCann lying there and leaving himself feeling accomplished.

Twelve hours later...
Katherine yawned as she raised her arms over her head stretching them. The curtains in her room were closed so it was ultimately pretty dark. The only light that filtered through was the light peeking through the cracks of the fabric that hung just above the window. Tiny dust particles danced in the air. A tentative knock played at her apartment’s door, she sighed and removed her warm comforter from her legs, exposing her body to sheer cold air. Katherine shivered and proceeded towards her closet to grab her fluffy pink bathrobe which was hung on a plastic hanger.
