CHAPTER ELEVEN
Standing on a cracked roof top, the killer pulled out his bow and quiver full of arrows. Sliding the long oak shaft of the arrow into the bow, he pulled back searching for his victim.
Target spotted.
The killer pulled the bow string back, blocking out every sound from the ambiance of the city. Blocking out every bird, every person talking, and every car horn. He took a deep breath, only hearing the thump of his heart.
Thump. Thump. Thump.
Release.
The killer slowly released his grip on the string letting it glide past his fingertips. The oak arrow spiraled down past the building hitting his victim right in the chest.
The killer laughed as he saw the man flinch and arch his back. He watched as instinctively, the victims hands went to the arrow grabbing it. By the time he broke the arrow, it was already too late. He was slowly falling. Slowly falling onto the dirty cobblestone ally.
Dead.
The killer smirked before turning around adjusting his black hood. One loser down, two more losers to go....
Twenty-four hours later
Katherine walked into the examination room at the morgue to find her three other fellow detectives along with three dead bodies. Each body lying individually on stainless steel tables. They looked like life sized rubber dummies. The usual white cloth was draped over the body from their waist down. Two of the men had arrows jutting out from the center of their chests but the other man didn't.
"Hey guys," Katherine spoke happily. "What's the deal?"
"NYPD found these three people dead." Detective Blye said.
Katherine walked over to one of the bodies and looked at the large hole in the mans chest filled with what appeared to be wood. She questioned it silently to herself before saying, "Looks like the shaft of an arrow."
"Indeed Detective McCann," the Medical Examiner, Trisha Lared spoke just as she swiftly walked through the stainless steel hinge doors. She had a cream colored folder in her hands. Walking up towards the body Katherine was at, she set them down, "James Walker," she walked in between the two other dead men pointing to them one by one, "Scott Damon and Tyler Flynn."
Each detective nodded their heads, "All these victims were mid-thirties." she eyed the victims, "Each died because of a pierce in the heart. James Walker was the one who broke the arrow. Breaking the arrow reduces the pain and pressure. But, these two guys, must have died instantly." she pointed to the two other men with arrows sticking out from their chests.
Katherine walked over to the man know as Scott. She looked at the arrow and then looked at Trisha, "May I?" the Medical Examiner nodded her head as Katherine grabbed hold of the arrow. Each Detective had questioning looks on their faces.
