Chapter Eight

EIGHT WEEKS LATER..

Captain Briggs was standing behind a large podium with a microphone, "I would like to welcome all of you to the 2009 Police Academy graduation. After this graduation, your relative or friend will put there life on the line and protect the city of New York. Some may become people greater then just patrol cops, others will roam the streets protecting you, and other civilians. So, with out further words, how about you all put your hands together for the 2009 graduating class of the New York Police Academy!"

Claps and cheers sounded throughout the auditorium including the Captain's.

Tears where almost coming out of her eyes because she knew what wonderful people these graduates are. Briggs especially likes Katherine because of her dedication, fearlessness, and bravery.

Each graduate was wearing the class A Police Officer uniform. The navy blue jacket was lined with double gold buttons, while the sleeves have a twisted rope of gold wrapped around the wrists. An empty spot just above the heart sat. An empty spot that was awaiting for something to take up space. The badge. Each graduate would be given a badge once they were called. The navy blue hat was rimmed with the twisted gold rope, while the visor was shiny and all white. White gloves covered the hands of the graduating.

The captain then started to call names up to the podium, Bradley Smith, Lucas DeVito, Connor Bryan.

Katherine zoned out in excitement until she heard her name, "Katherine McCann," She arose from the chair and proceeded towards the Captain. Both women where beaming at each other. Katherine shook her hand before the Captain pinned the gold badge to her chest. "Congratulations." The Captain whispered.

A few people in the crowd were cheering and clapping, she looked up to view the attendants and too her surprise she saw her uncle. For the first time in a while he showed up to an event of Katherine's. He was smiling and clapping, his smile becoming greater when she noticed him.

After all fifteen badges were given out the Captain began to speak, "That concludes the 2009 graduation ceremony of the Police Academy students. Can we please get another round of applause?"

The whole room began to echo in applause and cheer. Captain Briggs turned to her newly graduated students and smiled standing straight, raising her flattened hand up to her forehead. She held her hand in that position before abruptly lifting it above her head, saluting.

The graduating class of officers mimiced the Captain's actions. Backs straightened, left arms down, while right hands were lifted on their foreheads.

After the ceremony, Katherine, as well as many other graduates went into the foyer to visit their family and friends. Once she saw her uncle her face was beaming. Running up to him, Stan's smile practically enveloped her. For once Stan looked decent. Dressed in slacks and a white tucked in shirt with a tie. He looked smashing. For being almost forty-five, he looked great. Not many wrinkles, the perfect smile, an still the perfect charm that can make any women giddy. A black blazer was slung over his shoulder just before he put his arms through. Katherine hugged him, "I'm glad you came."

"Congradulations Katty," He held out a boquet of flowers for Katherine to take, "I'm so proud of you. Your parents are too." Stan made a sweet grin just before Katherine tugged him in for another hug.

Stan stepped back, eyeing Katherine's attire from her polished black shoes to her navy blue hat. "Katty, you're gonna be one bad ass cop."

Katherine's face flushed pink as she smiled looking at the ground. Looking up again Katherine eyed passed Stan's head only to see Detective's Blye and Jackson. Her smiled faded, "What's wrong, Kat?" Stan asked concerned. He turned around missing what she was looking so angry about.
