Melina opens her eyes slowly. Resting on her stomach in the comforts of her own bed. Blankets pulled over her, arms buried under the pillow and her black hair sprawled all over her back and arms and parts of the pillow.
She yawns and looks at the small pace between her hair and pillow allowing her to see outside through the window into the bright sunlight illuminating over the Frostlands.
Melina rolls over onto her back, keeping her arms buried under the pillow as she stares at the ceiling. Thinking to herself about the process of obtaining the metallic hands and how painful it was.
"Hey, she's finally awake."
Melina quickly looks to the sound of the voice interrupting her morning thoughts. Sitting at a desk in the room, writing away with the quill and ink. The brown hair, eyes, the necklace of Mandite hanging around his neck.
"Dayton?" Melina's eyes don't look away from what should be her dead boyfriend and she tries to sit up, but feels a massive pain in her head. "Careful, Melina." Dayton gets up from his seat and walks over to the bed. "You took a heavy hit to the head just last night." He gets into the bed next to Melina.
Melina pulls her hands out from under the pillows and holds them to her head to try and ease the pain. She looks at her hands with confusion. Normal skin and veins, no metal. Dayton's alive?
"I got my hands back? I got you.. back?" Melina reaches out a hand to touch Dayton's face. She expected her hand to pass through like he was a ghost like Carsin. But her hand stops and feels the warmth coming off Dayton's face.
"You don't remember a thing?" Dayton takes Melina's hand into his own and smiles at her. Melina shakes her head speechless. "I get to finally tell a story around here." He says.
"I.." Melina tries to think about what happened recently, but her memories only recall the metal hands being attached, only she doesn't have them anymore. "I have to be dreaming."
"No, i'll tell you everything while we eat." He lets go of her hand and gets out of bed. "Slowly." He says.
Melina lifts her head slowly and groans in pain from the headache. She feels around her head and finds the bruise on the back of her head. As Melina gets out of bed on her side, Dayton walks over to help her up and assist her.
They make their way to the dining hall where the other guard members eat or just tell stories. Dayton stops by a table and sits Melina down. "I'll grab us food, wait here." Off Dayton goes to get food.
Melina rests her head in her hands and tries her best to believe what is going on, but it felt too good to be even close to true.
"Melina?"
Melina turns her head quickly again in defense this time. Knowing that voice anywhere. She locks her eyes onto her mother just across the room. Only she's wearing no armor, just normal fur clothing to keep warm. Her blonde hair tied in a long single braid thrown over her shoulder.
"Mother.." Melina doesn't make a move. Just watches, but the rest of the guard don't move on her other. Some do give weird looks, but other than that, Melissa is walking free.
"I am so sorry." She says and sits down. "I lost my mind, gave in to the murder..." The look on Melisa's face is genuine sorrow. She truly looks miserable about what she has done in the last fifteen years.
"I know. You murdered Dayton in front of me. Took my own hands.." Melina doesn't buy into the forgiveness act and she crosses her arms.
"But Dayton is alive, your hands are back." Melissa pleads her case but Melina just bites down her tongue lightly.
"Dayton may be alive, but I still have to live with the memories of his rotting corpse beside me. You stabbing him like it was fun entertainment act... you want forgiveness, go to Noriel."
Melina looks away from her mother and Melissa gets up and takes a good look at her daughter, but keeps her silence. Melissa then leaves through the halls.
This is all you wanted, but yet you still push it all away.
Melina looks around, but sees no one looking at her. She recalls a spell that sends messages through people's minds, but she has no idea whose talking to her.
Dayton reborn, your mother returning from the darkness and here you are questioning it. Just accept the world for what it is now and live your life.
