Mariam"Dr Mariam you have an appointment with Mrs Suzane can I let her in," The nurse asked almost horrified to see I was going to leave. Realization hit me hard as I slumped back into my chair signalling her to let Suzane. I pressed my lips into a hard thin line and intertwined my fingers together waiting for her. Suzane's case was different, But not rare.
"But Mariam can I know what is this erythroblastosis fetalis?"
Suzane asked flipping through her blood test reports which I had given her. She seemed completely exhausted and sick of everything.
I smiled at her weakly knowing how she would feel.
"Erythroblastosis fetalis is also known as hemolytic anaemia and it's a medical condition that most commonly results from maternal-fetal blood type Rh factor incompatibility."Suzane's jaw hung agape, She licked her lips and started asking me things how to sort this out, as usual, it went on and on. I looked at my watch it was almost quarter past six in the evening.
"A shot is administered like after a couple of days post birth if the baby is Rh positive. This prevents adverse reactions for you if any of the baby's placenta remains your womb, And also if your baby experiences erythroblastosis fetalis in the womb, they may be given intrauterine blood transfusions to reduce anaemia, We can get through this I promise."
I finished talking to her as she finally left with her Salaam and a weak smile.
I got up clearing up my table and there were messages from Zahran.Zahran: It's six Mrs Mariam when can I pick you up?. 6.00PM.
I quickly smiled at how precise he was to message me at six exactly.
Mariam: Very sorry about the delay. You may come now. 6.46PM.
I got my coat and quickly put my stuff into my leather tote bag waiting for him to reply or I may ring him up. But then my phone buzzed, Oh! That was very quick.
Zahran: Come out Habibti. 6.55PM.
Mariam: lol okay! 6.55PM.I got out as soon as possible and waved at Wendy at the reception to make sure she knew I left. The atmosphere seemed like it had rained today. I never knew as I was jam-packed inside the hospital for the whole day but thank God I escaped from wearing my ugly scrubs. Zahran's car was standing outside the hospital, He got down the car and waved at me as I walked towards him. He was in his light grey sweatshirt and his normal jeans seem like he went home after going to his father's office.
"Assalamu alaikum how was your day?"
He asked embracing me in a tight hug."Walaikum Assalam was Rahmatullah. It was okay!"
I beamed breaking the hug.
"Did you eat?"
He asked as I got into the car, I remained quiet realising I forgot to have my lunch. I smiled showing all my thirty-two teeth and fluttered my lashes several times.
"I knew it, Anyways we are going to eat only!"
He said driving towards 102, Constitution street.
"But I'm not too hungry, Okay whatever," I said shrugging.
He took my hand in his and kissed each of my knuckles.
"We are going to eat!"
I said pulling off.
"Very intransigent Mrs Mariam," He scoffed and left my hand.
"Did you talk to Dr.Sameer?"
I asked suddenly remembering about his lupus.
