❁Chapter 4❁

Jamie's POV

It's already been 3 weeks since I started school, and so far, everything has been great to me.

Jacob and I had made plans to do homework together at my house since my mom was working extra late tonight. As we reached my house, I got out my keys and opened the door.

"After you, Whitesides" I said, directing him inside

"Why thank you, Rivera"

He winked at me as he walked inside. God he's such a flirt, I thought. We sat down at the kitchen table and got out our books. As soon as we know it, an hour had passed and we barley did any work.

"Jamie we should take a break" Jacob said taking a deep breath

"We haven't done shit" I giggled

"I know but we might as well just talk because we both know we're not gonna get any work done"

"So what do you want to talk about" I asked

"Hm let's see.. what about your parents? I know like everything about you accept your parents"

"Hah well uh, my mom is a doctor.."

"What about your dad?" He asked curiously

"Oh um... he was a police officer.. and he got shot two years ago"

It was hard for me to get those words out of my mouth. I felt my eyes starting to tear up.

"Oh I'm so sorry" Jacob said trying to comfort me

"No it's fine, you didn't know. Can we please just talk about something else"

"Yeah of corse" He said with sorrow

Jacob's POV

After she told me about her dad, I regretted asking her. I can tell she just wanted to break down and cry.

I didn't know what else to talk about so we just finished our homework quietly. After we finished I checked the time,

"I think you should get going. My mom is gonna be here any minute" Jamie told me

"Yeah I'm gonna get going. Are you okay?"

"Yeah, I'm fine"

She walked me out to the door and we said our goodbyes. Even though she said she was okay, I can tell she was dying on the inside. I couldn't help but think it was all my fault, but then again I didn't know.

"See you tomorrow" she said

"Yeah see you tomorrow" I said

As I was walking to my house, I was praying she was okay. And then it popped into my head, what if she self harms. She always wore the same bracelets everyday on the same wrist, and she never takes them off. I kinda thought I was over thinking all this but, just in case, I grabbed out my phone and texted her.

Jamie's POV

As soon as Jacob left, I fell to the floor and started bawling my eyes out. I lied about my mom coming home, she told me she wouldn't be home until 10.

I didn't think tonight would go like this. I missed my dad so much. The whole reason why we moved was so we can restart and hopefully get our minds off of things. Jacob didn't know that he died, but it still hurt talking about it.

I heard my phone buzz so I forced myself to get up and go get it. It was a text message from Jacob that read:

Jacob: I hope you're okay. Please stay strong I love you so much<3

His text brought a smile to my face, but I wondered if he really does love me or if he just felt bad.

I took off my bracelets and set them on the table. I examined my scared filled wrist. Almost 4 months clean, I thought, I can do this. I put on some music to try to get my mind of off things.

"Florida Kilos" by Lana Del Rey came on. I decided to text Jacob back:

Me: Thanks I love you:)

Jacob's POV

Once I reached my house, Jamie finally responded to my text.

Jamie: Thanks I love you:)

A big smile appeared across my face. I called up Shawn and told him everything that happened today. Shawn is the only one who knows that I like Jamie.

Shawn: Hello

Me: Shawn my feelings for Jamie are getting stronger but I don't know if I should tell her

Shawn: You should I'm like 99.999% sure she likes you too

Me: Yeah but I'm just nervous ya know

Shawn: Then just wait until you feel like the time is right

Me: Okay thanks Shawn I know I can count on you

Shawn: Anytime

I decided to take Shawn's advise and wait till I feel the time is right.
