Chapter Ten
Today is the day the tournament begins. I could never have prepared for this without my father. I'm glad that he has prepared me. Though he probably wasn't planning that I go to the tournament, his training was what has prepared me for this day. After cleaning my new armor for a while it appears to be kind of shining in a way that makes it seem to change color. Maybe it's also a type of camouflage armor. I put it on and go to some bushes. As I enter it the armor seems to vanish in a kind of clear form. My entire body is now practically invisible. This could be useful if I ever need to sneak around somewhere. Though I doubt I'd need to sneak around any time soon. Still very useful if I want to sneak up on a target as well. I go back inside and put everything away. Nina is looking at my armor and seeing what I could possibly wear. She puts on the clothes she had the day I met her. She seems a little nervous about the tournament.
"Are you scared about this tournament?" I say, breaking the silence. Hoping this takes her mind off of being nervous.
"To be honest I am. I've never seen so many people prepare for this tournament. I thought it would be something small but it turned out to be something even bigger than the tournaments that I've been to in the past." She is a martial artist, so she's bound to have participated in some.
"I don't know why there are so many either. It doesn't matter, you shouldn't be afraid. From what I've seen you are able to handle yourself well in combat. Give it everything you have and you will succeed." My encouragement seems to have at least made her smile.
"Thanks that means a lot, Really, thank you." She smiles as she puts on her gloves. Her gloves have a feather where her wrists are. Her gloves are a bit longer than most gloves and goes a bit off her wrist. She then puts on a special kind of shoe from what it looks like. The design is rather strange. It's probably meant that so she is still light but won't be able to harm her feet with rocks or whatever there is. I then begin to put my armor on. First I start with the black cowl. It covers me completely except my hands and my eyes. My hair went into the cowl rather easily. I didn't think it would feel better in the cowl than out of it. Next is the actual armor. Then I put the sword in its sheath and all the kunai where they belong. I then put on the boots that are a pretty light considering it appearing to be heavier than it looks. Next I place the gloves on. They go all over my arm covering up everything besides some parts of my hands. At my legs is another scale like design that follows the same pattern as it does for my chest armor. As I finish putting on all of my armor I look at Nina who seems surprised to see that I'm wearing all of this.
"You.. You look like an assassin. You don't look the same at all. You're like a whole different person. You don't look recognizable unless you know that those are your eyes." She says as she gazes at my eyes, before looking away and focusing back on her attire.
"I plan to look recognizable to somebody that needs to be taught a lesson, and unrecognizable to the familiar people so that I'm not bothered because I might need to do something in a way that I won't be bothered. So when we're at the tournament don't come up to me, if I'm actually doing anything. That's all I ask. At least for tonight. Hopefully I find what I'm looking for by tonight." She nods in compliance.
"Ok, but be safe. Whatever you're going to do, try not to faint. I wouldn't want to take care of you during the tournament." She laughs while saying this.
"I'll try my best not to faint. I wouldn't want you spending time on me during the tournament either." I say with a chuckle. It's getting close until the sun sets and the tournament begins. We were told to go where we went on the day of the final arrivals. The tournament will be held on a wooden platform. Whoever wins without getting eliminated gets to fight against Shang Tsung himself. My main focus is to beat the tournament and then I can go after the Lin Kuei. I'd have to get Sektor first so that the grandmaster knows that I shouldn't be messed with.
