Leico Valdangelo just another heartache

"Marry me."/"I'm sorry."

Nico didn't hear what Leo just said, his response-that was kind of spoken in unison with himself- was entirely unexpected.

"What do you mean?" Leo was crushed, how could Nico just apologize? Did he not want to be with him? Was something holding him back?

"You think that I didn't know this whole time?" Nico's voice went cold. "I overheard you and Hazel talking before we left."

Leo blinked. So it wasn't a surprise? He has tried so hard to keep it a secret and Nico still found out?! Why is he apologizing?! Did he know beforehand he was going to say no?

"So you don't think we should?" Leo's voice cracked.

"Leo I'm in love with you. This is something way different than the crush I had on Percy, and the love I have for my friends and family. Why are you doing this to us?" Nico demanded.

"What am I doing?!"  Leo's voice rose.

"Why would you want to end something so... I don't know perfect?" Nico was obviously frustrated. "Or maybe it was just that way for me."

"If we're so perfect why won't you marry me?!" Leo shouted.

"What?!" Nico's pretty little jaw dropped.

“Did you not hear me or something?!" Leo was upset as fuck and didn't even understand what was happening. "I was asking you to marry me!"

Nico just sat there, the music has stopped, people were staring (hopefully none of them knew English), and Leo was shaking.

"I thought you were breaking up with me..." Nico whispered.

"What?"

"I'm sorry."

"No, I really didn't hear you."

"I thought you were breaking up with me." Nico said louder.

Leo's eyes went wide. "Oh my gods no, Neeks. You're the best thing that has ever happened to me"

"Then why did you tell my sister you were done dating me?"

"Because I want you to be my husband.." Leo said softly.

Nico stared at Leo in shock and realization at what the fuck just happened here.

"I'm sorry." He said again before shadow traveling away.

Nico hadn't even looked at the little black box let alone the ring inside. But then again maybe that's all Leo is worth; an apology.
