"Michael Mell, please come to the principal's office." The loudspeaker announced.  With all eyes on him, Michael stood up and walked quickly out of the classroom.

As soon as he got to the principal's office he saw two police officers. One was tall with dark skin and a thick mustache. The other was shorter and a little chubby.

"Michael, these officers need to ask you a couple questions about your friend Evan."

"Oh okay." He was a little nervous, he had never been questioned by the police before.

"Have a seat son." The shorter one said.

Michael sat in one of the chairs facing the officers and fidgeted with his sleeves. He wondered why that guy called him son, he wasn't the officers son...

"Michael, did Evan say anything to you about running away?" The taller officer asked.

"No sir."

"Do you have any ideas where he might be?"

"No, but to be honest I don't think he would run away sir."

"What makes you say that?"

"He loves his plants."

"Excuse me?"

"Are you trying to be funny here, because now's really not the time son." The shorter one asked.

"No sir, I just...he has a lot of houseplants. He really loves them and he wouldn't abandon them. Plus he really cares about his mom, and his brother died when he was younger. He wouldn't do that to her."

"Maybe under certain circumstances?"

"I don't know..."

"Do you know if he had any enemies, maybe someone who bullied him and might try to do something to him?" The tall one asked, looking a little exasperated.

"Well everyone kinda bullies him except me. Oh but there was this one kid he had been friends with, Jared Kleinman. He wasn't really nice to Evan and Evan had texted me one night when I was asleep and said Jared was at his door. That's the last time I heard from him before he texted me for help."

The taller one nodded. "We'll have to talk to him then."

"Thanks for the help kid." The shorter one said, Michael wasn't sure if he was being sarcastic or not.

"You can return to class now, Michael." The principal told him.

Michael nodded and left. His class was already over and he had a few minutes before the next one. He walked to his locker and saw Jeremy waiting there for him.

"Hey, why'd they call you to the office? Did you get in trouble?" He seemed kind of worried.

"They wanted to talk to me about Evan. Because he messaged me last night."

"Well how'd they know that?"

"Because I told his mom..."

"Oh..." Jeremy scratched his neck nervously.

"What?"

"I don't know just...did you mention me at all?"

"No, why?" Michael frowned.

"Well cause they probably think you had something to do with it...then if you mentioned me then I'd probably be
in trouble too."

Michael scoffed. He couldn't believe what Jeremy had just said. "Are you kidding me? That's what you're worried about? We didn't even do anything! That's ridiculous."

"Michael-"

"No, you know what? I'm sick of this. I'm sick of it. You only ever think about yourself. You don't even care that Evan's missing!"

"I-"

"How about you come see me when you finally decide to be a decent person."

Jeremy looked like he didn't know how to react to this and Michael stormed off.

Of course Jeremy and him had petty arguments here and there but never like this. Michael didn't even feel bad though. Jeremy had this coming.

He loved Jeremy, they were best friends since they were little, but he could be a real jerk sometimes. Hopefully Jeremy would finally realize and then everything could be okay again.

Michael stomped out the doors of the school, not caring if anyone saw, and sat on the steps. He cried, but only because he was angry.

He didn't care if him and Jeremy ever even made up, or at least that's what he told himself.
