1.Sterling Opera House, Derby Connecticut. -The Opera house was built in 1889 and has seen performances such as actor Lionel Barrymore, Harry Houdini, Red Skelton and John Philip Sousa. The Sterling Opera House operated until 1945, then it became city hall. In the 1960's the building was abandoned. Lately the Sterling Opera House has been under renovation. Apparitions of shadowy figures and children's hand prints have appeared. Some people have claimed to see Victorian clothed figures and orbs have shown up in photos.
2. John York Home, North Stonington, Connecticut- John York, a businessman and farmer originally built the home in 1741. Eventually the house was turned into an inn and tavern and remained that way for 250 years. The hauntings claim to have started when two soldiers began to brawl after finding that they both fancied the same girl. One was stabbed and the other had run from the tavern and killed himself. The dead soldiers blood could not be cleaned from the floor boards, resulting in the floor being torn up and flipped over. That's when the apparition began to show up along with cold spots and strange noises. In 1963 the Wilms family moved in. Bothered by the ghost, they held many séances, but the sessions only made the ghost more active. In 1997 the home returned to being an inn, but it is reported to be no longer in operation.
3. Fairfield State Hospital, Newton, Connecticut- The hospital opened In 1931 to house the criminally insane patients. It contained 16 buildings connected by underground tunnels. As a result of tragic patient abuse and questionable deaths the rumors of hauntings began. The hospital was eventually shut down in 1995.
4. Undercliff Sanatorium, Meriden, Connecticut- The Undercliff Sanatorium was built in 1910 for children with tuberculosis. Like many sanatoriums, the Undercliff Sanatorium is rumored to be haunted. Footsteps, screams, voices, crying, laughter have been heard along with witnesses claiming to see apparitions.
5. Captain Grants Inn, Preston, Connecticut- The Captain Grants Inn was built in 1754 was the site of garrisoned soldiers during the Revolutionary war, slaves were held during the Civil War. The active history is said what started the active spirit life. The Adelaide Room is especially haunted with the apparition of a woman in colonial era clothing holding hands with two children.
